Hey Plummet,
That photo is gonna give me wet dreams! A 9m Edge on a twinny would see you boost 100ft off one of those kickers, or a surfboard and a 4m Reo ...... ahhhhh!
For you though, the 6m Reo will be perfect.

Awesome photo Plummet. Nothing like the raw power of mother nature (and having gear that lets you get amongst it)!
I have an 11m edge for boosting to the moon!!....
then a 10m c4 for 18-30 waves and general jumping around.
the 6m reo would sit under the 10 c4 as the storm kite and hit the real big swells and wind that bangs through this place.
PS I was shredding up waves like this for several hours on sunday... EPIC. there was a constant stream of the bastards all over head height breaking from 800m out all the way to the beach.
90 KG weight, surfboard and already have a 12 for under 20kt. I'm looking at Reo for high teens to low thirties. At the low end, when would the 6 and the 8 start being fun to use? Normally I would go 9/7 but I haven't flown Ozones before and now sure about the power. Thanks
the edge is good for boosting to the moon, going fast and upwind like a rocket. But it is crap for waves! Theres been plenty a time i've been tearing down a wave face gained abit of speed and the edge has powered with the increased aparent wind and torn me off the face. It also does not like down wind down the line at all..... but horses for courses. thats why i step into a c4 for the mid range and then the reo will be all over the really big and stupid conditions.
nice. Now i just need to find some $$$. Does anyone want to buy a grandmother going cheap?
hey, back to topic what's the lowend difference for a 80kg guy with good kite flying skills and strapless 6'1 early planing surfboard between 10 and 12m2 Reos?
I was thinking about 6 and 10m set, but should I get the 8 as well or 12?
Thanks!
Hi Hunter S,
You could easily do a 10m and 6m combo but then you'd miss out on the sweetness of the 8m. I guess a lot of it depends on your body weight, prefered wind speed and the size of your board and style you ride. The Reo's have a wide wind range and a fair amount of overlap IMHO but realistically, my thinking is if you want to cover a wind range of 14 to 35 knots, you'll get 90% of the time betwen 15 and 26. This would suggest to me that you'll get a lot more joy and fun riding in the sweet spots of the 10m and 8m, rather than compromising for those few days a year in nukin wind. Just a theory of mine FWIW.
So far, most guys buying are going the 10m and 8m combo's
Why not drop in and pick up a demo kite and take it for a spin, then you'll know what works for you personally. I have most sizes available to demo.
Cheers,
DM
^^^I totally agree with DM.
The 8m is my favourite and IMHO it is the must have size Reo for Perth (me 73kg) so if you were my weight I'd be thinking 6/8, 8/10 or even 8/12.
I decided to maximize the sweet spots and forgo the absolute upper and lower end of the wind range and bought 8/10m Reos.
I was out today at Leighton and my wind gauge said average wind speed 14kn and I was ok on the 10m Reo. I'd get the 8m out from about 18kn.
(I dont need a wind gauge to tell me which kite to be on, just wanted an accurate reading for a mate over east)
If you only ride waves (on a surfboard) the Reo is well worth a demo but forget it if you are after an all-round kite as there are much better kites for that.
78kg's liv'in in perth, the reo is not one of the expensive kites on the market so after you demo, 6,8 & 10 sweeeeeeeeeeeeet
Three kite quiver 6,8, and 10. Will cover almost all decent kiteable winds in WA.
Otherwise i would say 8 and 10 and a 6 after summer for next winter
well my quiver is this. 11m edge, 10m c4 8m light. Looking at flicking teh 8m light adding 6m reo, 8m catalyst and 13m edge. the edge and the cat will be s/h.
my theory is this. the lower the wind the less the waves and i'm more interested in boosting. as wind increases my style changes from boosting to loops and waves to hard out waves and storms.
Thus the mixed quiver.
he he. the kids were screaming in the back ground and the missis was going postal.. so it was a fast types post.
I have the 6 - 10m combo. Im 95kg, ride 6'3 surfboard and love it. Compared to cat, there is more power on the upstroke and more power in the turns. It turns quicker than the cat and handles abuse even better, ie riding at and under it.
Ten is my biggest with the reo, happy with the six in 20-30kn, so considering 4m too.
Haven't got a new bar, still using 08 ozone bar.
Very c kite feel, takes me back, very good kite.
Disclosure; I sell the odd kite, like two a year, with taskites, worlds smallest kite shop.
Just wondering if i go the 10 and 6 combo will i be able to ride them on the same bar ..(the new one, when it drops)
Hi Michaelr,
We tested the proto 12, 10, 8 and 6 all on the same bar. The kites all turned excellently on the one bar. I dind'y fly the 6m, but did fly the other three on the same bar and all were sweet as.
Nath may be able to give you feedback on the 6m and others, but I'm pretty sure we were both using the same sized bars (50cm).

Hi Michaelr,
I usually use a 45cm bar and standard 25m lines with the 6m REO. This is a sweet combo and it's what the design team recommended when they sent the final prototypes (45cm bar for the 4&6m kites and 50cm bar for the 8,10&12m kites).
As Darren mentioned we tried the 6m with a 50cm bar. The turning is lighter and faster and it performs exceptionally well. These characteristics can often be used to your advantage in a wave kite and this would be my choice if you are keen to use the same bar for both 6m and 10m REOs.
I'll sometimes use a 50cm bar and shorter (20m) lines which really speeds things up especially on the 6m. This is not necessary with the REOs but can be really fun if the winds are strong or you're high on caffeine
