Hey default, have you had a couple of kites with your Dynabar yet?
How have you found it...
I'm repping the rope slider now, sooo smooth.
hey SB, no I havent used it at all!
Still waiting for the compatible belt hook to arrive Cant mod the old one as I have to send it back.. so waiting waiting. Been f-all swell around so been hitting the flats. A little wave yest so back out on the sb but with standard spreader.
a tad inconvenient but I think I'll just thread the belt through the bar (without using a hook) so I cant try it out in the meantime..
Hi everybody,
I own a Dynabar but I also have manufatured my slider bar. See pics.
Mine is similar to the Ian Alldredge setup using 6mm vectran rope (better than dyneema), a sailing pulley and shackle. I have removed the old hook since I rarely ride unhooked and if needed I use another bar. https://shop.ride-engine.com/how-to-setup-a-slider-bar/
For me this setup is cleaner and safer than dynabar, I use Swivel Snap Shackle instead of chicken loop. Be careful with this and ropes, it may get trapped when you release that is why I use a shackle instead. I love this setup for riding waves
All components are rated above 1000lb, I bought everything in local shop for about 50?.
Ive just put one of these on my xmas list. Though looking at stone 2000's post it does seem pretty easy to make.
Though in your link provided it shows an example of the chicken loop being removed and replaced with what looks like a QRD (Quick release device) I would say this is highly dangerous. A QRD cannot release if it has tension on it.
Being that if you get into trouble and need to ditch, with this setup you wont be able to. I suggest you suspend yourself from your harness and with your body weight on it try and disconnect.
I think the example show is a major accident waiting to happen.
In my second year of using Dynabar for waves. Can't recommend it enough. The only minor issue i had was that the black elastic thingy that centres the hook snapped (after a good number of sessions though). Got online to Kitepower and within a few days replacement arrived. And they didn't even charge postage. Anyone riding waves hooked in should demo Dynabar. Its the next best thing to unhooked.
Im very interested in making one of these.
A couple of things, I dont see a need for the pulley?? I think a caribina would do the trick. I want to keep the chicken loop though. Wonder how it will go just clipping into a caribiner??? Also think a single caribiner will keep it closer then the pulley and then the shackle??I think bend radius is to tight around just a caribiner as the usual hook on the harness is 20mm wide??
Also my spreader bar on my prolimit seat harness is 2 piece. Can you get single piece spreader bars?? I think this will work better??
Will most spreader bars work on any harness? I'll be cutting the hook off.
Anything else I should be thinking of??
Made this today cost $60.
Bought a new Dakin Hammerhead spreader complete and cut the tongue off it where you would usually click the chicken loop to. Bought some 6mm spectra rope, breaking strain 1.6 tons and a stainless caribiner that my chicken loop will release through and fitted it to my harness.
yet to test it but see how we go?? Feels good and a hell of alot cheaper then $150 I could find the D7 for??
good job mate, you will be amazed at the difference???
also, some good advice for ya.
if your back can cope without a seat harness, get a waist harness.
almost mandatory for the surf as you need to pivot at the hips.
Yeah Im definitely considering a waist harness. I started out with the seat harness as that was what the shop suggested and I'm pretty happy with it. Except when i get over powered and it tries to cut me in half.
I dont really have any hassles with my back though I did crush two vertebrae in a heavy mx crash last year. So i dont really want to outlay for a waist harness and then find it hurts my back and i cant use it. Everyone seems to say seat harnesses dont hurt your back??? When the seat blows out i'll look at upgrading to a waist after a few trials...
Funny enough the whole reason I started kiting was because I gave up MX.
ooo nasty.
yeah, if you think your back can handle a waist i would definitely give that a try.
head to the beach, one of the lads would give you a go in their harness surely???
a seat harness is good if that is the only way you can get on the water and kite with no pain???
do you still ride bikes, enduro is where its at???!
I used to ride enduro but switched to MX after a mate talked me into it and got me hooked. Nah no bikes at all now. Maybe get one in a few years when the missus begins to forget that she nearly had to go back to work haha.
I have had the Dynabar for a while now and generaly love it.
I have also recently been looking at the Mystic 2 face wave harness. I have seen one in the shops and it feels quite good to wear in the shop. I am quite happy with the fact it will only slide one diection, but I am not sure if I can get it done up tight enough via the single strap.
Has anyone tried one? I am interested to hear some feedback. I like the look of the compact hook compared to the extended hook of the Dynabar.
I spend my sessions 50/50 between the surfboard and the TT so it needs to be able to work with both.
All feedback welcome...
^ no reason, I have the Dynabar free ride bar fine as it generally sits in the middle when on the TT with the option to rotate if I desire. Feels no different to a standard bar when jumping. Not sure how the rope option would feel.
Interested on feedback on the Mystic 2 Face though...
