Hi BendigoPeter
I purchased the 16 NRG 214 meter. Above 10 knots the NRG does everything well, jump, turns, relaunch , static pull and you always know where the kite is sitting. I need to test the kite on below 10 knots wind. I have always been reading about the DImitri kites and I will like to demo the v3. Who can I call to demo the kite? I will write a NRG review after a few more hours of flying the kite. The 16 meter NRG out of the plastic bag weight is 5 Kg.
Cool castill0jf, thanks a heap for your advice - the shop guys are saying that the 16m is too much for most to handle and only have the 14m as their biggest size. To demo the Epic kite I contacted Nigel from East Coast kiteboarding. admin@eastcoastkitesurfing.com.au. I payed the return postage. They were super helpful.
That's why there's no size on it - so Epic can make it bigger or smaller depending on what the trends are... when the V1 was out, nobody was riding "big" kites except racers, and guys comparing it like Pete found it to be a 15. Now 17m kites are accepted, the V3 is a little bigger...
Smart.
... amazing the size difference,,, similar to a comparison I did, here is a 17m Zephyr on top of a 17m Dyno:
Good call - the TRXs do look small in the sky! A similar size meant a good comparison in perfomance I guess
Kamikuza: Infinity V2 over the V3, very close in size about 16m. I thought someone calc'd it at 15.8m a while ago?
The other kite is the LF NRG 16m, bit higher aspect but area approx the same.
In any case its the lw kite
Very close but not the same... 5m x 20cm is another square meter - doesn't take much and I still think not printing the size is a good way to let you diddle it, depending on fashion.
Kite sizes should be taken with a grain of salt anyway...!
The wind left us with no choice but to test the LW ability of the equipment on hand. Thanks to Nigel and Padi for bringing their gear to try and giving us as much tips as we could use on the day given the very marginal conditions. Hardly jaw dropping photos but interesting nonetheless for evidence of the absolute bottom end both kites achieved.
Concensus was that NRG sits more forward in the window and while it is a little harder to manage it will give slightly more low end with a touch more upwind when in the experienced hands. Padi had both the NRG and V3 out with the lightwave 161 x 45. The Epic had a 75kg rider on a King George 146 x 50 in these photos - The general opinion is that the V3 is super easy for anyone to handle, it sit's back a little further and has slightly less aspect ratio and a touch less upwind. I own the V2 in the photos and it is a fun kite but the V3 is way easier to use. In 7-10 kts both riders stayed upwind on both kit. L8r in sub 6 on the Epic/KG combo, I could do a couple of tacks of 100-200m before hitting the sand and no jumps.
Is that really a 17 TRX in that photo with the V2? The V2 is generally considered to be around 15-16m and these photos with the NRG 16m LW machine add weight to this.
I packed up both Epics and the V3 packs up smaller and lighter
.

About 1 month ago, I bought the kite and board from Eastcoast Kitesurfing and Nigel asked me at the time to post my feedback on this forum after a few runs with the gear.
Here is a video taken from Altona beach, on a low tide afternoon with sea breeze blowing between 9 and 12 knots.

He might get here one day, he is mad and has skills..
There won't be any new lw kite till mid next year as far as I know,
Make sure you vote for Dimitri in the Red Bull king of the air wild card video contest, I'd like to see him in there going crazy.
Any one want a demo anywhere in oz I can get one to you to try.
