This is a biased review.
Dont read it.

The 9m is a pretty good size to first describe as its the middle of the range and its about the average size used in WA.

Im about 90-95kgs wet and ride 133 x 40 cardboard twin tip (soon to be 143x40) in Geraldton. Averagish rider and Im not a fan of light wind cause it sucks. Im an Aries and like to put peanut butter in my 2min noodles

Anyway I find the 9m basically my most used kite. Usually I like to take the 7m but the 9m gives a bit better bottom end when the wind drops below 18knts. The 9 is pretty fast turning and can be put in the right place at the right time easily so it works well with a surfboard fo me in about 16 - 25knts.

The top end of the kite is fully controllable and awesome fun. Getting over 30knts is lit! I max out unhooked about 24knts on this kite.

The 9m kite is pretty stable when top ending due to ESP technology and there is no sign of it inverting when fully sheeting out and edging hard.

The power fully shuts down when leaving the bar out and sending the kite across the window, its amazing..

There are 2 front line attachments. The front factory setting gives bow style depower. There is a lot of depower in this size. Sometimes the kites wing tip does a little movement for my weight but it doesn't effect the kite or disturb the lift. The second front setting has more sustained lift and lighter bar pressure.

Turning is smooth and there is no sign of flutter. Turning pressure and sheeting presure is light but gives good feedback for kite reference when it is flying fast.

The wide tips make it easy to relaunch from U shape. I just grab to the end of the side leader line and pull. The more side line I pull the more the kite pivots on the spot and just takes off.

Made a boo boo and rolled the kite. All the lines twisted, But it wasnt a problem. The front line Y is long. Its good the crossed lines had longer twists and less of an angle to bind up. When I got to the beach I just let go of the bar and the kite glides down. Then tied it to my board. From here its easy to fix the lines cause they are all straight and sortable. This is the same way I land the kite at the end of the day.

Hope this is helpful

Thanks Bobby, checks in the mail..

Good kite, It has OK bottom end power but its main asset seems to be its quick enough to put in the right place at the right time.

This is cool cause it covers up my flying mistakes and keeps me planning.

Tim from G-Spot in Geraldton has a 9m demo.

Go in and check out the full range of sizes in different flavours available.

G-spot Tim can arrange demo sessions of any other size kite in the Geraldton area too.

Hi Ray Q,
The kite you saw may have been a 2007 Wipika MX proto. If it was a black one with orange Logos.

The NEW Original Series panels are specifically cut for good wearing and consistant performance in older kites.
Also has a different strut configuration, faster profiles n other cool stuff. Many other things are different but its all technical stuff. See www.newkiteboarding.com for the tech stuff. Theres a design forum on there too, If you have questions.

Demo them from at Choice kitesurfing, they are comfortable kites for the windiest conditions.

22/8/07 Last night I finally got to play with the 9 metre at a crazy place. Wind range 16-30 knots! very gusty. I weigh closer to 115kg wet and struggled initially when the wind blew <20knots. The wind gods blessed me for an hour or so and I beat Choicey to grab the kite for a close look about the time the wind was improving in consistency. As N8 says it turns really fast, and I would add sheeted out it will travel anywhere through the window without undesired slam effects. The kite gets sweeter as the breeze strengthens and at 30 knots I was still fully powered and holding edge easily. The bar is clean and simple and noticeably the bar pressure is extremely light, given the wind strength at the top end this was a real surprise. Relaunch off the water was effortless. I was quite surprised by how gentle the kite is on the rider and haven't flown a kite which can be sent through the window rapidly without consequences in strong Breeze. The only downside is that when the wind was light the kite lacks bottom end, however in clean Summer Breeze it is going to make C Kite riders very happy. I think the kite could be ridden a little above 30knots with my body weight and still be enjoyable. Choicey has the demos, so give a local kite a go. PS N8 caught me at Cott on the weekend with the kite and no breeze, he's a great ambassador for the sport and took the time to discuss the design and features of the kite. How often do you get to rave with the kites' designers?

I had a ride of the 9 last Sunday up in Gero... there was a big front coming through and the wind was a bit patchy, but the lightest it got was about 20kn.

It took a couple of runs to get used to how quick the kite was, but once i had that sorted (the kite was patient with me haha), it was awesome fun to ride. Really light bar pressure, handled the gusty conditions really well, PLENTY of grunt. I was disappointed that I didn't get more time on the kite cause it started P*SSING with rain, and I had to drive back to perth

In a nutshell tho, the way the kite performed was great... I am really impressed with the 9 and can't wait for a day when it's nuking to get a demo on the 7. Might have to do a special run up to Gero when the sea breezes start to hit

Oh, and the build quality of the kite was unreal!! Great work N8

saw a guy at the harbour on a 7m, you know who you are, thats right the bloke who makes the wind dissapear everytime he turn ups! stop it!

anyway, the kite looked pretty sick and all over the sky, only thing is bottom end doesn't seem fantastic(i was on a 8.5m at the time on a twin tip), geezer was on a surfboard, then again some people aren't fans of that. Would be keen for a go next time if the wind doesn't dissapear again!

Im 90 something Kgs and was just flying the 7m! Im riding a 133 x 40 The 7m doesnt work well for me under 20 knts, funny about that. My style is go back wards and forwards and do some very average jumps.

But I wasnt close to over powered with an open depower cleat. Gero port says 30 but I would say it was a bit more in a few gusts.

Dam it I had a completely wrapped kite, in the shore break, side line, a front line and the scary 5th line was all wrapped up. I used the reride ring to flag it and the kite lived to be untangled on the beach and relaunched.

Dan (80kgs?)was flying a NEW 9m and Nth Sky pro, He was cruising around at the same time no worries and riding no worries in the light wind 15knts from 2 oclock on. He also tried to destroy the kite 10 to 20 times in the shore break and it survived, amazing.

(For your reference a couple other mates turned up with popular 9m Warroos and it didnt happen for them. 1 overpowered with a scary wobbling kite and 1 kitemare on safety release? I missed that though)

Both Dan and I had no worries tangle free self landing when the wind got stronger.

If you get a chance to demo a NEW kite, Check the wind out and ride a normal size dont be soft, these kites have stable depowering top end. It doesnt seem like they will go invert with the bar all the way out. Also the best way to find the bottom end in the kites is to do an aggressive power sweep, and away she goes!!!

If your chasing a demo in Gero call me on 0401 034 331, dont give it to too many girls.

Yeah, was the guys first time out on the kite and i have had my kite a year so can get the most out of it. Absolutely demo-ing anything i can get my hands on at the mo. I did notice the speed of the kite, looks super quick especially when heading down a wave.

your number has been posted everywhere i was allowed to type. law of averages says you might get a few good ones.

Made it back in 1 piece.

Scored great surfing and 1 hour of kiting
Seabreeze is only just coming in was turning on for a short period in the arvo.

Anyway I used a 144 custom wave twinny Mutant sort of thing cause the tide was really low and I didnt want to wreck my surfie. I used 23m x 5 lines, double hooked waist harness, Black long arm springie and wore blue dick togs under this.If that info makes a difference... Was around 18.5 to 19 knts and 4m swell.

Im not really a fashion follower sort of dude and ride wave Twinnies and webbing board leashes when its 6 or 8 foot plus. Silly me got all excited saturday arvo and forgot to hook up my board leash, and left it at camp where I tied my dog. One large wave fell over on me and lost my board for 10 mins at the end of the session and it washed downwind to me just as the wind was dropping out.

The kite fell in the water between one of the larger sets and it took me 1 wave to relaunch. I blame the waves cause my lines went through them and it turned the kite back in the water. Little scary but the kite relaunched well considering there was very little wind in the wave troughs.

Down the line the kite sat very stable hooked and unhooked. There werent any surges of power and it allowed me to do fairly vertical top turns and stay close to the sucky pocket.

I should also add I rig my gear a bit differently for wave riding. There is an extra hook on my spreader bar that I short leash my safety leash too. When unhooked and stretching my arm out there is tension on the Neutralizer 5 line. The idea behind this is to help the kite sit back in the window and fly much better while riding off the wind unhooked. The kite pivots off the Neutralizer 5 line and is light to turn. Its great cause it allows you to open up your arms hold your balance to ride comfortably fast bottom turns and go hard n agressive down the line. All Original series kites come with this feature on the safety leash.

The ESP construction really stablizes the kite when the 5th has tension, the kite is totally predictable and the wing tips dont get lost and wander around without front line tension. No big deal but it was part of the design plan.

Launching and landing is no problem in this spot.
1)Simply rigged my kite down wind like normal,
2)Tied the Neutralizer 5 line to my board wedged in the sand.
3)Walked down and flipped the kite over into a U shape.
4)Ran up hooked my leash on and 5th line launched.
Super handy skill to have especially when needing to launch on a 5m wide cross shore beach. This 5th relaunch skill you should learn in the water first before doing it on the beach. Its learnt by just releasing to safety in the water. Leave it until it settles in a U position and learning how to relaunch it from there. The secret is reaching around 1m up the turning line and doing a big turn to start it relaunching.

This was the report of the 9m.
But,But the 7m is the kite for that spot in the normal wind. Spewing I couldnt use the 7m, but our camera woman was using it and I guess it was the right size for her.
9m was perfectly sized waveriding kite for me that day.

Used a demo New "Original Series" 9m at Separation Point Geraldton as a front passed through the area. This was a good test for any kite because the wind swung from 15-18kn cross offshore with small waves around to 20-28kn cross onshore with lots of chop. I weigh 85 kg and was riding a Airush 135 Protoy.
While the wind was light, gusty and offshore the 9m New had enough power to comfortably pull me around the break. The kite was fast and nice and light to steer and once on the plane the kite had enough power to keep me there and had great upwind performance. Unhooking and bearing away on the small waves the kite was stable, responsive and at no stage looked like stalling.
As the wind became stronger and gustier and swung a bit more onshore and the water surface became choppier the kite felt really controllable, moving forward in the window smoothly with the gusts. This, and the massive depower ability helped instil a feeling of confidence. The kite jumps high because of the quick response to rider input and the hangtime was good. Surface passes felt easy thanks to the solid pull the kite delivers. This is a kite that truly makes you feel like "pushing your limits".
I reckon the New 9m is a great all round kite and anyone wanting to progress to the next level in their kiting should get their hands on one.

Yeh it seems the ideal board is large.
Actually I find smaller square boards harder to land tricks, Not that I land much
Longer board is less skatie and holds a line well, good for fast landing. Larger board combination also stays on top of the water longer and planes earlier. Great thing is the kites have massive amounts of stable top end depower, which also blends nicely with big boards.

The general observation is riders on larger boards are enjoying themsleves the most. Big boards jump bigger too.

The key to success is larger reliable boards. It will give you massive windrange

Did I mention Larger board if your larger person....

Riders Details - 95Kg 190cm kiting 7yrs Style:Surfing+Surfbaord/Fast Speed kiting - Mutant and into big Air
Key Features
Manufacture
1. Kite is light weight very maneuverable. Excellent construction without being too overloaded with scuff pads and heavy extras that weigh the kite down reducing maneuverability
2. 5th Line is a ‘Y’ – easy to drop onto the beach when finished – Tie the line to your board and walk up the line and pick the kite up
3. Beach/water start very easy
4. Bar depower is excellent as no need to run the bar too far along the line to depower ie no more than an arms length OK for those who are vertically challenged
5. Bar build quality excellent and simple design power/depower buckle is easy to use and does not stick
6. Rubberised bar ends ie protection again body knocks.
7. Safety leash is a good size not too long not too short and says rated to 200kg
8. Spare 5th line with the bar
9. The bar is all customizable
10. Fast to inflate, little slow deflating but fast if the pneumatic system is unplugged. Actually no need to visit the struts for inflation and deflation, very simple.
11. The Pneumatic system is removable, plugs come in the bag to replace the small hoses
12. Large bag is easy to pack the kite into.
13. All parts seem easily serviceable, eg removing replacing bladders
14. Good diameter LE and struts so less likely to fold up in the water
15. Solid connections between LE and struts so LE is less likely to roll around 180 degrees when crashed and folding.
16. New ESP exact strut placement technology. Allows the kite to back wind like a windsurfing wave sail. Keeps the flutter to a minimum during fast turns.
Performance
1. The kite is very quick through the window and turning although it does not have good the bottom (Which most people will complain about because they do not understand that the kite must be flown) but I believe that is good as the kite needs to be flown to generate lift and this is accomplished easily for two reasons the kite is very light and the foil is very efficient. I have great fun driving the kite easily in an ‘S’ fashion and the lift generated is excellent – does one want to be bored just holding the kite in one position or would you rather have fun driving the kite hard? The ability to drive the kite easily through the air means that when you are surfing and the kite is parked at 10 or 2 it is very easy to generate lift by driving the kite in any direction you wish to place. In addition on those light days when surfing and running down the face of the wave, the kite can be ‘parked’ in front of you and it just hangs there ready to fire up with one tug of the bar in any direction.
2. In ballistic conditions (used the 9 in 30-35knts) the kite works well and at no point did I feel uncomfortable in the gusts.
3. Down loop Jybe the power is smooth through the bar and the loop is a reasonable tight arc.
4. Kite looping easy to do as the kite is very quick and you don’t feel that incredible catapult effect.
5. Wing tips cup and bend, helps with down wind relaunches
6. 5th line is simple and free moving, Allows fast relaunches
7. Relaunch from LE down is easy just grab 1 side line and hold tension, the kite will pivot over and stand on the wing tip. Low skill needed
8. Relaunch from LE down facing the rider works too. The free siding front lines allow the LE to flex and kick itself off the water. Some skill needed.
9. Bar and turning pressure is soft, no chance of tendonitis RSI or tennis elbow. Its good for retaining your strength to do unhooked moves.
10. The depower loop is designed so you can connect the leash through the 5th line then the depower loop. Works well as a safer suicide leash.
11. Very simple depower loop action. Safety release is stiff and doesn’t release during normal riding but unloads when fully powered up.
12. Nice bar grip, doesn’t wear out the hands as fast as some more hard abrasive types.

It's a functional design with efficient aerodynamics..
Testing the others shortly.

Lately we have had light winds, mostly under 20knts and I have been spending a fair amount of time on the 14m.

Normally Im not happy riding the largest size.... but yesterday

Looking at the recorded wind it was working really well, 15-20knts
I could point very very high upwind. Actually I could get on this funky wave that wraps around and upwind and the kite would follow me. It was super fun, normally the wind is alittle too strong and you cant ride the wave around the corner.

Board off was good too and was able to feel comfortable spinning my 90kgs of fat ass 3 times in the air. Double spin transitions were OK too.

Unhooked was no problem, crashed a few and claimed some rums from sofled
It was a good mixture of being able to ride what ever.
Can't wait till my bigger 143 NEW board arrives to compliment the big size even more!

I flew the 11 today only on the beach as I thought it wouldn't have enough power for me but in hind sight it probably would have been perfect bottom end conditions with a surf board [i only have the bindings atm].

Rigging up:
The build quality is very good, the lines and bar are very simple and effective, it reminds me of a Cat earth mover because of its black and yellow colour scheme. The one pump is appreciated and the provision for separate bladders present.
Comes with a 2L pump with steel shaft so you cant ask for a better pump with out batteries.
it doesnt look too flash, no eye catching graphics.

Launch:
a self launch with the kite 45deg to the wind and a bit of sand on the canopy was easy as it was quiet willing to take to the air.
the lines are clean and dont have much to get tangled on them selves with
the rounded shape lets it roll over easy enough

Handeling:
The kite was good for bare foot sand skiing doing fluid transitions between turns, a real wave kite.
The depower is pain less and not over stretched
the small chicken loop is a concern though, i personally hate them yet friends who have borrowed my old kites before have complained they have to hold the bar too far away.
even in the light wind i could let go of the bar and run up wind with the kite sitting at 45 for a nice amount of time

Landing:
I have a love of 5th line and today reminded me why, the self land was so easy, just sit the kite over on the edge, pull down hard and yank the 5th to get the kite facing down and into the wind.

Pack up:
a the bag requires the kite be folded 3 times for it to fit, there isn't a separate pocket for the bar and the pump doesnt fit properly in the pump pocket.
The one pump pipes are too small to let the air out quick enough so you have to unplug them for a second.

Conclusion:
I really liked this kite and hope to be able to test it in conditions that are strong enough for its potential to be realized. [it also looks promising for kiteloops and unhooked ]

[I will be at the down winder tomorrow with it, hopefully i can get my hands on a converse before then as well]

Awsome kites, ive tried the 7,9,11 and 14 now. all kites are super fast which makes them great for wave riding and they still hold there power when you unhook and load up for wake style moves. Unbelievable relaunch (check out the footage on the newkiteboarding site), good solid looking constructed kites. And best of all there designed here in wa which makes them ideal for wa conditions. im definetly getting a quiver as soon as ive off loaded last years kites.

The Black and Red kite is a 9m.
This was one of many cold fronts (which are actually warm) coming through Geraldton last winter and the wind was 20 to up 35 knot gusts.
I self landed the kite using the 5th line.
