All LEI kites can be used for snow kiting with varied success.
Some limitations can include re-launch and durability

If it is back country riding you are looking at I would personally stick with a foil but you will find many varied opinions around.

"I would personally stick with a foil"

Why ?
I personally wouldn't .I have been snowkiting since 97 and my 9 m argo is the best kite that I have ever used for snowkiting in australia .I have used it in nuclear winds at the top of thredbo on doubled up 21 m lines and have also used the same kite with extensions (to 30 m) in bugger all wind (as light as it gets for snowkiting) which is the norm for our mountains .
Ive gotta say that initially I was sceptical .i thought it would slide all over the place and blow away in the strong stuff on launch but i just placed snow on top with the wind running over the top and pulled it around for a self launch successfully. Landing was fine too just hung onto one front line and reeled it in.Relaunch is a snack and it handles cauliflower ice surpising well too,its major challenge (more of an issue for any lines )
I had a chat with Tim who is a BC specialist and sure its a bit bulky plus a pump has to go .but with a bit of small hand pump and a bit of extra pumping its the go .Tim was also quite a fan and has been a depowerable foil fan but was very impressed with the argo.I reckon a 7 would be a bit less bulky and heavy if you need to walk but with the doubled lines and long lines its gonna do the job of say a 3m foil and a 10m foil and prolly take less room . The jury is still a bit out on this tho .perhaps a 2 m std 4 line foil on 5 m lines and a 10 depowerable foil would cover the same stuff but I reckon the 7m argo gives a better and safer all round ride .I;m definitely a fan but not a real BC head .next year i plan to kite the rolling grounds with Tim .i have an aversion to walking so we'll see how it gos and report back

So to wrap up if it is for recreational snowkiting without BC camping and all the crap I reckon for all round performance and safety an ARGO 4 SURE Agreat retail price and can use it on the water as well

Sorry no video footage from me but this might help Its old 2009 and standard griffin but many regard the argo as a superior kite

Ahh but I said for back country I would personally use one.
Also I didn't say everybody else should, it's up to the individual.

There is a lot of each type being used around the world and in the end it comes down to the individual.

When I fly my Montana there is no pumping or rigging, just unroll the lines and away you go. No bladders to damage and it can be pinpoint landed without assistance and under full control. Then re-launched immediately. They just make life easier

But after all of that have you tried a late model de-power foil Lach? I can send you one to try for a while if you like.

Yes it can be used as a snowkite.
ozonekites.com/snow

After watching that clip though, you have to admire the handling of an Ozone Frenzy.
If its your only kite, then go for it, but for ease of use and transport, foils have a lot to offer.
The depower and ability to oversheet an inflato so that it flies backwards do have distinct advantages over foils, if you have not flown foils much. Its easier to do more natural carving turns with an inflato when going downhill, but you can still do it with foils. I think that video is awesome.

Many brands try to copy Ozone, but they are always just second best.

AH All I asked was why? and thanks for your answer . And yes I have tried a late model de-power foil and in very testing conditions in our mountains for which they are supposed to excell .Once again I was VERY surprised by the all round performance , versatiity and durability of the LEI kite .In my experience and that of the other well experienced snow kiter the LEI ran rings around the depowerable foils (current highly marketed models ) I don't want to get into a fight here over LEI vs Foil .Just wanted to share my thoughts based on actual experience . We both feel that portability and as you say durability are issues for hard core backcountry use
Also i'm sure the C4 would be worth a look in

2010 ozone C4 on snow just outside Queenstown in the NZ South Island.

Yep, they work, Mike likely gets more snow kiting in NZ than anyone and the C4 is his kite of choice.

(Board is a custom Decay snow kite board - a wide 157 with 12m side cut)
