My Comments:
Hi ,currently 78 kg, kontact, small to medium waves ,in sardinia(italy) using 5 6 7 rebel, back now to much less wind home spot(rome) and need to buy something for 12 13 knots to 16 17.
last year bought nugget and rebel 8 thinking it was a compromise between fast planing enough turning but did not like the board and the kite size and sold after few session.
I apprecciate the precision and the upwind of rebels so tought at 11 but heard of dice that here at the moment is unknown.
really I'd like to come for a test over there but little far!
also heard of "brutus" that likes european meet and some fear!!!!!!!!!
I am waiting to try something but will appreciate some suggestions!
ciao piccio

Not that I truly follow what you are saying especially towards the end, what kind of riding do you do? They are both great kites but have very different purposes.

Hi big eppo! sorry ,try to say in english is harder than 40 knots session!
I' like something between 12 16 knots ,also another brand ,anything to have fun .
I like waves mostly but I live in mediterranean sea and rare overhead is what we get usually .
yust started strapless few session ago ,not so easy ,but good sensation I will go on.
I have small rebels to use from 20 onward with north kontact and I miss small wind days .
Do not like much slow turning speed of big rebels and do not like four lines but some power is needed anyway when around 15 knots and not sure what to buy.
really confused ,since I have already north bar I tought rebel 11 (2013 for saving or 2014 if noticeable difference) but I 'd like to hear something about dice .
I heard good about ozone but not so popular here ,hard to try one !
ciao !

Alright if waves are where you are at, especially strapless, then I'm not too sure why you are on rebels.

What weight are you, considering you are looking for 12 to 16 which is winds that lack power?

Depending on weight you should be looking for a 13m dice although if you are just going strapless then the north Neo would also be a good bet. Both drift and work in the waves very well. Will sh1t all over a rebel in the waves.

Ozone, then its the REO for what you are after.

Thanks eppo ,my weight 78 kilos
what size of reo should I look for?
I am on rebels (the small ones) because found them with strong mistral a word apart ,precision ,gust eating, enormous depower an wind range.
do not like the big ones from 8 and up because their slow turning speed is too limiting in waves .this in summer time in sardinia island.
back here in rome much less wind, small waves, need something bigger ,do not know what to look after

Well give me your targeted wind range. Also mention what board you are on, dimensions and whether you ride in strong currents or not. Personally I even found the 8m rebel not suitable for waves but hey you are right about their wind range and canopy stability.

Also remember a new REO with better bottom end is due soon, so I can only comment on the 2013s which I have ridden.

Reckon the dice might be worth looking at though, it has that north feel.

Oh you said 12 to 16. Well the biggest REO possible! 12m. But I'd be looking for a 2014 even the 12m you'd struggle if you ride in strong currents at the low end of that range. But that also depends on what board you are using.

Can you demo these puppies?

Remember not much power spilling over a wing at 12 knots no matter what kite you are on and if you want to surf, well then it gets even harder to really get aggressive.

Been on the 12m dice and I'd say you'd want a 13, to have some power to spare. But everything is slowed down and your riding moves more into down the line action.

The mystery in all this is the new REO.

Not pimping but try and demo a Best TS, it does everything you are asking for. I don't know much about the Dice but it outperforms the Rebel easily in waves and unhooking. I do ride for Best but had heaps of sessions on the Rebel. Just try and get demo's on each of them, they are all good kites.

Yeh the best TS is a kite I'd like to try as well.

You can't compare the dice and the rebel, totally different kites. The dice seems on first impression (4 rides only on the 9 and 12) to drift as good as any wave kite I have tried. The rebel, nah I wish people would stop talking about the rebel and waves....lets stop it here and now, its no wave kite. Period.

Hi eppo ,no chance to try dice here at the moment nor the big ozones.
a friend has ozone reo 10 meter ,I tried it ,liked it ,good maneuverability, good quality ,maybe no much power but no sure because it was an extremely variable day from 15 to 25 knots 1 meter waves.
in the same day had option to try switch method 7meter ,also used my 7 rebel and finally did not understood anything ,too tired.
what is good in the morning is bad in the afternoon and viceversa.
I agree big size rebels are no good in waves but the small ones 567 have decent turning speed (at least for my level),usable!
anyway my starting question was something for low wind and since here waves are windgenerated (we have no tides) everything is good to go back and forth so I decided to buy anything not too expensive .
thanks ,I keep reading your post .
last ask!
I wonder how do you kite with idea of white shark around?
You get used to it or you do not think or you yust hope ?
I heard of a big white who was given the name of "brutus" in WA.
Yust the idea makes me running away in the alps!!!!

Hey man, that's not a bad way to go, if you won't use it much, then best not to have a lot of money tied up in it, depreciating.

What are you getting then?

Sharks are real enough up and down our coast, particularly with the whale migration which is starting again.

But it is what it is, you want to go into their territory then so be it. Although I still feel where the general public go, more preventive protection (even if it is just for their suburban peace of mind) is needed in seem places.

As far as rebels go, yep in the small sizes....honestly most kites in their small sizes are decent in the waves though. Only yesterday was on a 6m Varial X a high aspect C kite, not built for waves, but she worked a treat. Excellent for onshore conditions like we had as the VX is a super fast kite, and a 6m is stupidly fast....it actually kept making me laugh how fast that thing kept screaming across the window!!

I also love it when crew post absolute perfection for wave riding like above and say 'hey how good is the rebel in the waves' ba ha ha ha....I could ride my bloody edge with a wave like that and do reasonable well....bloody perfection!
Hint fella, that wave and cross off wind has NOTHING to do With the rebel you are riding.....ba ha ha ha.......

The kite clearly doesn't matter for wave riding, some of the pros can ride waves very well even using BWS kites.

Obvious replys from kiters that havnt tried BWS kites or have no idea what kite Surfing in waves is about.

Dont knock the kite if you dont now it , no one kite suits all, try them all ,yes you can ride any kite in waves or freeride , and unless you are a pro rider reviews from a 30 minute session is only based on your own skills or lack of.

Im amazed how subjects get hi jacked on this forum by riders that think they know it all , i have tried over twenty kites this year before deciding and it still comes down to personal choice.

The new BWS is an exceptional wave kite for the general conditions we all get.

The old one I was not impressed with, nor the quality of build.

nobs wtf are you talking about?

BWS kites should be banned in QLD, they are normally attached to a kook on a surfboard, completely out of control, that never looks over his shoulder, tearing down wind ploughing through all other watercraft with total disregard to all other water users. The strapless surf board with a kite revolution, that seems to have been made fashionable by BWS is a guaranteed way to get kiting banned on a beach near you.....

What stupid comment , kiters have been riding waves with kites for over ten years strapless all over the world , way before BWS even came into production.
The water is for all to share ,yes there are learners from all kiteing areas making mistakes and both on surfboards and twin tips , most of the guys riding waves try and stick by the rules that i have seen but like all sports there is Knobs that dont.

Even in the smaller size with a SB, cross on-shore breeze and waves I've found the Rebel pretty disappointing, it won't drift and as soon as you head towards it the kite will start to falter. So you have to power it up again and then you're off the wave. Get off the SB and onto the TT though and the outcome matches the expectation.. awesome.

No sign of the Dice around my local shop yet so I've taken a punt on a 9m Switch Method v2 see how she goes when it gets here!

Hey Piccio, at a seshun recently in the bay 2 very good kiters were carving on rebels and strapless, so like vendeavours said, it can be done.

but when it did drop to 13 kts they were dead in the water on their 12m rebels I managed to keep going for a bit longer on the 11m renegade (+4m line extensions and 10kg less beer bricks) but the 13m renegade would have caned it if I could have been stuffed to grab it at that late stage(beer o'clock - no chance).

For that wind you're basically in 12-14m kite fun zone. From your headline choice its the Dice for sure. Otherwise there's a crapload of demo's coming up...
