2013 SAKSA State Freestyle Titles

"Y'all ready for this?"

It's Summer, it's hot, and the seabreezes are back to their old selves again! You've all been throwing down your best moves. now it's time for the SAKSA State Freestyle Titles for 2013!

With less than a week to go the SAKSA crew have been working round the clock to pull things together to ensure the 2013 State Titles are the best State Titles nationwide!

With the venue set in stone, the t-shirts being printed as we speak, wristbands on their way and boxes of prizes flowing in from all our amazing sponsors, things are really coming together for what looks to be a fantastic weekend. Even the wind gods have come to the party with the long range forecast looking great for a seabreeze on both days.

This year SAKSA is proud to announce we have secured Ewan Jaspan, International Naish Team rider, fresh of the back of his second season competing on the World Kiteboarding Tour (PKRA). Ewan is currently Australia's top Freestyle rider and will treat the crowds to some spectacular riding as well as assisting with the judging throughout the weekend. His riding is something you have to see to believe and Ewan will be on hand all weekend to chat and mingle with the competitors. It will be worth the $50 entry fee alone just to see Ewan throw down!

With 6 divisions this year including Juniors, Amateurs, Open Women, Open Men, Masters and Legends there is a division to suit everyone and their level of riding, with the emphasis on coming down and having a go. Even if you're not throwing down any mad tricks just yet SAKSA wants you all to come on down, have a crack, and enjoy the social atmosphere.

Pro AV Solutions, one of our newest sponsors, has come onboard this year by thrown us a Sony HDR-AS15 Full HD Action Cam, which will be used as this year's Encouragement Award. This amazing prize will not be going to a sponsored rider or one of the division winners, this prize is going out to that special person who is out there giving it their all. While they may not even be pulling out any sweet moves just yet, they are out there having fun, getting involved and who is seen as a good ambassador for kitesurfing in SA. So even if you thinking 'im really not sure, im not good enough, ive only just started kiting' don't let these excuses stop you as you never know it could be you walking away with this great prize!

Once again a huge thanks goes out to all our major sponsors (Onboard, Stance, Xtreme Kites and Paddle, FSR Industries, WindSUP, Pro AV Solutions/Sony, Transition Surf Shop, Boarding HQ, Living Energy Solutions, BSS Light Audio Visual, Red Barron, KSA, Cabrinha, North, Nobile, Mystic, Brunotti, Ozone BWS, and Supersuite) for getting behind this event. These guys get behind us every year without question and have all come to the party once again with over $5,000 worth of awesome prizes for the prize table. Make sure you get behind them and support the guys who support kiting in our great state.

Grange Sailing Club have again opened their doors to the local kiting community and makes a great spectator venue to watch all the action. The bar will be open all weekend and the club rooms are a great vantage point to make sure you don't miss any of the thrills and spills. Grange Sailing Club is a Grom friendly venue so bring down all your family and friends, for what is going to be an exciting few days on and off the water.

So what else do I need to know:

When: 9th & 10th February, 2013

Where: Grange Sailing Club

What Time: 10am for an 11am briefing but please watch the Seabreeze and Facebook forums as this time will be brought forward if the conditions are frontal and look to be coming in earlier.

How much: $50 Entry, which includes entry to the comp, BBQ lunch on both days, Free pizza at the presentation night, an event t-shirt, a SAKSA wristband and a pick from the amazing prize table.

Spectators can also purchase a weekend food pass this year where $10 gets you a wristband (so we can work out whos paid and who hasn't), BBQ lunch on both Saturday and Sunday and pizza at the presentation night on Sunday night.

Event Format and Judging Criteria: Again this year the competition will comprise of 2 man heats, 7 to 8 minutes long with up to 2 heats on the water at any given time.

Judging criteria will be the same as last year's State Titles with some minor alterations to bring it in line with the updated PKRA judging guidelines where riders will be judged on a maximum of 13 trick attempts, the 7 highest scoring tricks being used to give them their overall score for the heat. Ams and Legends will be judged on their overall heat with no maximum on trick attempts.

What do I need: A current SAKSA Membership and some kite gear

How to Enter: Entry will again be online through the AKSA page http://www.aksa.com.au/Default.aspx?pageId=651617&eventId=627356&EventViewMode=EventDetails , we encourage everyone to sign up early to assist us in catering for this event, however computers will be available on the day for last minute sign ups.

Just like every year, the atmosphere will be electric, the entertainment will be non-stop and the riding will be awesome. South Australia is the premier kiteboarding state, so support your local association, support your local comps and support your local businesses!

See you there!

Well its all getting pretty close now crew. The guys at SAKSA have been busting their asses trying to get everything sorted and its all coming together nicely. Should be the best States yet!

Getting really excited to see Ewan Jaspan (Naish International Team Rider and ranked 17th in the world for Freestyle) throw down and show us all how its done throughout the weekend as well.

And dont forget there are over $5000 worth of prizes up for grabs this year. The sponsors have been amazing yet again and all competitors get a pick from the prize table. The big question is who will walk away with the gold and more importantly the Encouragement Award - Sony Action Cam.

See you all down there for whats going to be a great weekend!

What do you do when there's no wind at the State Titles?

Fly an RC glider and hold a SUP race....
