Hi everyone,
I took a few of the Adelaide crew to this sweet spot a few years ago. Then i left S.A. and still haven't been to as good a spot since.
Anyway, i'm planning on travelling back there for a weekend and just wanted to see if anyone was keen for a session on the pristine, open, belly-deep, flatwater paradise that is Chinaman's well. (see my Avatar shot)
I'll put on a few beers to entice some of you and I could rustle up some accomodation for the adventurous few in nearby Port Vic.
Post here or message me.
Col.

My olds have a place at port victoria and I am planning a trip over there on the 4th March for the weekend to kite somewhere in the area. What winds work for Chinamans I have been around there but never put a kite up

I was one of those lucky few that were guided to this spot by Col- two cars had made the trek across from Adelaide to be greeted by some of the calmest conditions I had ever seen. It was genuinely glass flat and not a breath of wind. Then Col tells us it is windy over the other side- less than half an hours drive away.....we were scoffing and finding it a little hard to believe but jumped in the cars and scored an epic session in some seriously flat water. I have a bucks show so can't get there this time....hope a few crew get over there - good luck Col !

Important note: don't confuse "THE WELLS" with "CHINAMAN'S"
Chinaman well(s) is a nice sandy beach on the kneecap of the YP
Chinaman's is a well known surf spot on the foot of the YP. It is a rocky cliff beach and not great access for kiters.

Easy to get mixed up - Don't go to the wrong spot by mistake

If it is anything like further up the coast i.e Pt Broughton etc. then any wind with west in it seems to work.

As Col & Loverboy pointed out if the wind is the wrong way you just swap coasts.

Can't do that at Pt Broughton, not unless you want to kite in someones dam at Crystal Brook.

Any particular weekend in mind Col ?

Hi,
Just wondering (bit of a fossil myself) - very much alcohol induced - But really looking foreward to the few free beers.
How reliant are you on a four wheel drive in the area for wind direction etc.
Looking foreward on coming. Very close to be able to go upwind.
By next weekend should be on it!!
See you there,
Jim

NO 4wd required. The last 10ish km's is on unsealed road, but not boggy, so leave the maserati and lowered street racers at home, but the family car will be fine.
I usually drive the commodore right onto this beach with no problems. BUT you can also park right next to the beach.

Here's a "map"

Jeeze Chap, i had you down as a certainty

Quite right Bob, BUT, Don't fear. Of course i checked the tides before i planned my trip.... sheeeesh

The run down for tides on 19th Feb is: Spring tides, best between 12pm and 5pm (peak 3:30 at 1.7). Very Low (.2) at 11am and excellent for speed runs between 8 and 12am. Pretty similar to last time.

As usual, I will also provide the wind.

form guide on friday night.

p.s. how big are ya bob, someone'll have a kite to lend surely.

my size is a topic i rather not discuss!!been in the low 90"s.i"m not a kiter at this stage,i"m only having my 2nd lesson today but would certainly listen to anything any one has to say & may pluck up the courage to borrow a kite for some body dragging practice

Might have to try a little harder than the Guys at the Bureau of Met

Seems to have run out of puff at the current forecast.

Thinking about making the trip, what's the local knowledge on whether there will be wind, BOM doesn't look good for Saturday.

Looks ok to me.

Wind looks ok, and if not distance for options is ok.
I havnt been over there at all so any input would be good.

Oooh yay. I got phone to work!
No interweb in pt vic this week. Electricity dodgy.
I keep brief cos phone typing is annoying.
I haven't seen forecast since last night.
Unreal here right now. 25kt north west I reakon :)
Sat morning = the well. If there's any wind and just on principle,
Sat afternoon = no wind at well, go to north beach wallaroo. 12 kts if lucky.
Sunday = funday 20 kts plus at tiddy widdy.

Please feel free to ring me or sms me 0429 333 225 or post here with more informed opinions.

If anyone is coming, it would be good to be in the same place. And if you can't decide...... Tiddy widdy sunday is best option. (I will bring beer)

I've kited north of tiddy widdy once. Its like ardrossan but a better beach.

That's the best I can do for now. Hope some of you make the trip.
