Damn it?s cold already! You can tell because that frigid little bight in the air means you wake up with your feet inside the covers each morning ? no longer hanging half out of bed like you were only a few weeks back, with the fading Summer heat.

But not everything goes into hibernation, come Winter time. The swell is up, the banks are forming down South and the reefs on the mid are showing signs of their former glory. With the Winter chill also comes frontal systems that will power us into the waves like we?ve all dreamed about through summer.

As always, June and July will again play host to the most renowned wave competition in the country, as SAKSA holds it?s annual State Wave Titles. We?re expecting a great turn out, from those looking to just try their hand, to those going for the top place on the podium. Last year was hotly contested and there are a few crew at the top who are out to correct what they so closely missed out on.

As always, with the Winter weather patterns, we are setting a 4 week window aside in which to run the event. We will therefore run on the first weekend with adequate wind and swell. We?ve checked the tides and we?ve checked the breaks and have decided that in 2013, we?re going to open it up to officially be held at either Seaford or Middleton, depending on conditions. This worked really well last year when we moved the comp down to Middleton at short notice, so we?ve decided to have it as an official option so you can prepare for it.

The details are as follows.

When: June 22/23, June 29/30, July 6/7 or July 13/14
Where: Seaford or Middleton
Cost: $40 early-bird, $60 on the day (ONLINE ONLY ? NO CASH!).
What you get: Entry into the comp, free Tee, BBQ & Soft Drinks.
What you need: You must be a current SAKSA (AKSA) Member to enter.

Once again, we?ll be running Juniors, Amateurs, Open Men, Open Women, Masters and Legends categories, so whether you?re just comfy in the waves and want to give it a crack, or you?re going for the title, get out there and support the association that supports South Australian Kitesurfers, SAKSA!

See you out there and good luck!

how much notice would there be to calling the event on/off.
a solid forecast half a week out, or the day of the wind?
wouldn't mind coming down for a look at the event and the coastline.

Hi Surfingboye, we are just discussing all the details but in the past (which i think will be the same for this year) we tentatively call it on the Tuesday/Wednesday with the final decision being made on the Thursday arvo before the weekend in question.

Would love to have you along to the event, the more heads the better.

PM us here if you want any more details.

Cheers

Hey crew, I'm sure you all realised that the comp is not on this weekend due to poor conditions. So keep an eye on all the usual outlets mid next week to see if it is on next weekend.
Make sure you get out mid next week and enjoy the classic June conditions

Dont forget to keep the enxt few weekends free for teh 2013 State Titles crew. We are just going to have to watch the wind and wave patterns but we will try and give you all as much notice as possible prior to the event. Things are slowly coming together so now its just a matter of waiting for the right conditions.

Hey guys and girls.
Well another week passes with this summer/autumn weather pattern. Which means we are all getting stooged on the wind and wave front . Once again the forecast is looking very average for this weekend. So we have put the State Wave Titles on hold till the following weekend (6th and 7th of July). Don't forget that you can still sign up online for this great event.

Stayed tuned for updates mid next week.

Cheers

Hope everyone is able to get out on the water this week. Looks like some good wind and good swell mid week for those who can. For those competing in the Waves titles its a great chance to get out and hone your skills prior to the comp.

This coming weekend is looking the goods for swell just have to watch the wind patterns now but hopefully something will push through to help us out. Keep a close eye on the forecast and the SAKSA crew will keep you posted on here closer to the weekend.

Hopefully see you all on the water this week.

Hey crew, unfortunately these great conditions are not going to stick around for the weekend. So we have once again made the call to postpone the State Wave Titles to the following weekend (13th and 14th of July).

So get out there now and enjoy the great conditions.

Hey crew, things haven't quite gone to plan on the weather front again this for weekend. So we have once again postponed the comp till next weekend. We have managed to get an extension on the required permits for the whole month of July for the comp, so we still have plenty of time to run the event. So make sure you get online and sign up, without you we cannot run these great events.

Hey Crew,

Just wanted to keep you all informed that due to the unpredictable weather patterns SAKSA has decided to call off the State Wave Titles this weekend. Earlier in the week Sunday was looking promising however as the weekend drew closer it was tough to predict. While there still looks to be a bit of wind and a few waves around (so keep an eye on that) in the interest of a fair competition there just doesnt seem to be enough to get through a full competition. Its looking to be a fairly miserable day anyway with patchy winds and squalls all day.

As a result SAKSA have postponed the competition but have made arrangements with both the Onkaparinga and Alexandrina Councils so that we still have council approval should we run the competition later this month. Continue to keep an eye out here and on FB as further announcements will be made next week. Fingers crossed conditions get better later this months so this event is not postponed indefinitely.

Happy kiting

SAKSA

Hey guys and girls.

Well we have made the call to run the State Wave titles this Saturday (20th July). We are holding out on the location till tomorrow arvo, so we can work out the best spot to run it. But it will either be held at Moana out the front of the cafe or Middleton at the end of Rose st. So keep an eye on the usual outlets for up to date information. Don't forget to sign up online for this great event, with out your participation these events can't happen. So come down for a great fun day of wave riding. Remember, there is an amateur division for new crew to wave riding where twin tips are judged the same as surfboards.

See ya Saturday,
SAKSA Committee

Hey Guys and Girls,

We have made the decision to run the State Wave titles at Rose st Middleton tomorrow morning (20th July), this is the same spot we held it last year. Tomorrow is looking like we will have some fun head high waves in the morning with a building swell through out the day. Can everyone please be at the Rose st car park at 9am for a 9:30 briefing. Also, can everyone make sure that they have signed up online tonight to help us guys out. We will have online sign ups down there, but it is time consuming and makes things difficult for us. Also we will not be taking cash on the day, online credit card/paypal payment only.
Can everyone please check Seabreeze and Saksa fb in the morning just incase we have had to make a last minute change. It is highly unlikely, but we want to make sure everyone is aware it could happen.
Look forward to seeing as many of you tomorrow morning at Middleton for a great day of kiting. Don?t forget to let your family and friends know about this great event and invite them down.

Cheers
SAKSA Committee

Crazy wind and hail but lots of fun. I kind of like the extremes of our sport. Great to catch up with everyone and thanks for all of the hard work to the SAKSA people, Croc of course for his unflappable optimism, Danny for the truck, judges, and everyone involved in putting the event on etc etc. Certainaly enjoyed a hot shower when I got home.

Well the chart says it all!
