Hi folks,

Just reminding everyone of the SAKSA Charity Downwinder on next weekend, December 11th and the conditions are looking fantastic! It'll be a great day to meet some new crew and get a ride in!

It's a $10 donation to enter, with all proceeds going to a great cause, beyondblue. SAKSA will be putting on a BBQ and soft drinks for all entrants.

The downwinder course will be from Grange Sailing Club to the Chicken Shop. Anyone who could helps us out by doing a ferry run or two back to Grange from the Chicken Shop would be much appreciated.

Briefing kicks off at 12noon at the Grange Sailing Club.

Get along and support this awesome cause!

Cheers,
SAKSA

Beyondblue is the cause they have chosen.....I think all of us would agree that mental illness is something that doesn't get discussed in general and anything that brings awareness and gets us to think about it in my eyes is a great idea !

This follows the video... found it on vimeo ..

Last week, one of my best friends took his own life - and I am still reeling from this. The memorial service was a couple of days ago, and I created this video for his family as a tribute to him, to the amazing personality and friend he was to everyone who knew him.

With a few more days work, this could've been something really special - and there may still be a follow up to this as I do not feel that I have done him full justice with this, especially given everything that he did for me in his life, and for what he meant to me. I would like to more accurately depict his life and cover the areas missing from this vid, pending further photo and video material - as well as improve the overall quality.

Please forgive the quality of the VFX in this: it's not easy trying to put something together in such a short space of time through a haze of tears, trust me...!

The music track is Han's Zimmer's "Time" from the "Inception" Soundtrack - it matches the passage of time as shown in the vid - and in the film, it's used right at the end when the lead character finally finds his way home...which I hope is where David has finally arrived. May God rest his soul.

His family have encouraged me to make this vid public online, and it has been very well received by all his friends and family so far.

So, rather than ramble on further about how I feel, I will leave you with my final message to David.

***********************************************

To one of the best friends I have ever had - there was never a dull moment when you were around! You enlightened me in so many ways not least by furthering my existing knowledge of art, music, films: thank you for introducing me to "Amadeus" - no one else could have ever done that (and they tried)!

And the joys of script-writing...(I WILL make one of those films someday...someday...)

To the friend who used to kite-surf to work...! You always did have style...!

To the friend who came up with my nick-name "Trigger" all those years ago - without which there would be no TrigFX today.

To the friend who always made me laugh - especially with that handshake of yours! I did wonder why you tried to make me remember it again last February...now I know. I wish I had stayed in touch with you more after the 90's - but thank God for Facebook or I would never have found you again!

Found you - only to lose you again. I love it that you came to say goodbye to me - but hated that you felt things were so bad you had to leave. Permanently. You always liked to make a big entrance - and I always said that your exits could do with a bit of work...some things never change, huh?

There is a deep hole in my existence where you used to be - I will miss you deeply, my friend. But I will join you sometime - just not yet. Save a place for me, and keep riding those clouds...

Hi Slammer,

Mate, from all of us here at SAKSA, our deepest condolences for your loss. Your mate, David, sounds like the kind of guy we all wish we could have around. And while he's gone, he's clearly not forgotten.

We just want to say than you so much for sharing your story and for helping us show just how important the kind of work beyondblue do, is. You're a trooper, I loved the vid and we hope you can join us down at the beach today.

We'll all be at Grabge sailing club at 12 noon for briefing and signup. Let's rally around this cause and do our bit to help someone in need. We might just save a life.

Many thanks
Jordan

Hey Jordan.. just to clear my miscommunication on this thread..

I came across this clip on “ vimeo” in regards to David and I thought this powerful message was important to share with everyone in line with today's event and its connection to depression and the importance of “beyond blue” programmes

In saying that, I have lost two very good friends from suicide, so fully understand that impact, pain and frustration of losing someone so close. Another reason why this video hit such a raw nerve with me...

As males we tend to think of ourselves as invincible and weak if we ask for help, as mates we should always and I mean always be willing to be there for them... a simple, “how are you going lets catch up for a beer” is all it may take..
I will be down there today, and will be remembering my good friends Ken and Craig as well as others such as David who have left this earth way to early because of depression

Hi crew!

Just want to say a massive thanks to everyone who came out to support the charity downwinder for beyondblue. At last count we raised over $300 for them with around 25 or so riders (some giving really generously) signing up. I don't actually have the figures in front of me but I can repost when I get them from Troy.

All in all it was a great day! Awesome weather, blue skies, good wind and the greatest bunch of mates going around!

Thanks again to everyone who helped (particularly Troy and Tobi for organizing) and all those who gave and rode! You're all champions!

Many thanks.
