Hey all,

Anybody explored the islands around Port Lincoln much?
Going cruising over New years for 2 weeks, sailing over from adelaide will be spending some time around Wedge, Thistle, Lincoln and Sir Joseph Banks group. Has anyone checked these places out for Kiting?
I've just been looking on google earth and charts and there are a couple little bays on Reevesby Island that look super prime for kiting offshore seabreezes. Hard to tell from sat images tho and yes I am fully aware that jaws was filmed here for good reason, so hoping for a nice shallow, sandy and preferably shark-free bay!

Any advice re kiting, fishing, site seeing, or anything else would be great!

Cheers,

Sam

Yes i have also been there many times and will be there this xmass and new year.
Reevesby is the best spot, the southern side cops all the weather and gets deeper quicker but is prime for a good kite when the wind is good.
The Northern Side is Shallow for a long way out from memory but would generally be offshore when the seabreezes are in but also butter flat.
It's best to be out there in the morning before the wind comes up or it will be hard work getting out there.
There are also some good beaches west of Reevesby on the mainland ill be staying at Red Cliffs campsite look me up if your over this way.
Cheers,
Nugget.

Cheers Nugget!
Do you know if the wind over the land is clean enough to kite the seabreeze on the northern side of the island where it is offshore?
Any reasonable surf on the southern side?
We're on a yacht coming from adelaide, so wind for the ride over is a good thing (wind is always a good thing!)
Cheers,
Sam

It's been about 4 years so on memory it's not too bad but it's only a short ditance across the sand hills prob 100 to 200meters and about 15 to 20 m high.
I've only seen small wind swell waves on the southern side prob 1 - 2 foot.
Enjoy!!!

We had an absolutely brilliant trip, it's amazing this place isn't more popular. A few photos for anyone who's interested...
