Congratulations Tim on the new Australian Kite Speed record.
I've heard the trench has been re-dug now and more wind is coming so hopefully conditions will soon allow for even faster runs.
Underpowered on a 9m, i bet he was wishing he was on a Bandit
Hope they get some wind and can clock over 50kts. Would be good to see Aus get the world record. Go hard or go home[}:)]
Hi Guys,
Yesterday was lighter winds than friday but picked up in the last hour to half hour of the session. I was really happy with my times which seemed to match the best riders in the world, When I decided to come in and call it a day I was sitting on 4th at 41 knots for the 500m behind gavin 41.5, rob douglas 42.5 and alex 43 .
Only later when the wind picked up that the other guys started to post some nice quick speeds, so all in all I was really happy.
Today is going to be really windy so I guess a new world record will be set and I hope my goals are met aswell .
Thanks guys for your support
First run of the day 47 knot 500m and a board in the chest and chin at the finish ended my day which was very frustrating as records are dropping here like you wouldn't beleive , wind was around 45knots maybe stronger at times. oh well looks like if I can still ride after these injuries its going to be windy all week.
speed kiting here and in the trench is extreme as it gets
Ouch! Sorry to see you end your day like that & hope you haven't broken any bones!
Falling at those sorts of speeds can be nasty. I found a new video of the canal on youtube - looks like there is not much room to slow down after the 500m marker:
I can't believe how quick they're going!
I'm interested to know what is the formula for so much speed. Is it kite size & style, riding technique, board design or the biggest balls! Possibly a combination of the above?
By the way if anyone is interested to see how fast they can go, or experiment a bit themselves or have a drag without going to Luderitz all you need is a GT31 (waterproof GPS - about $200-$250 easily available on the Internet).
You can then compare your speed with those recorded on www.gps-kitesurfing.com or you can post them there if you want and get your own world ranking - it only takes a few minutes to set up. If you're interested I'll be happy to help with any questions, just PM me.
But be careful - its highly addictive!
Hi Tim,
Congratulations on your continued success on the world stage!!
Have you seen anything, i.e. technique, gear etc. that will give you that extra few (critical) knots to bust the world record for yourself?
I assume that you have to change your underwear regularly after this adrenaline rush on speed .
kind regards
fossil
Hi Tim, did you wear your GPS when you did your runs and if so, are you going to post them on gps-kitesurfing.com website? The 500m speed from your GPS (if you wore it) will probably be a bit higher then the official speed, because it works out the fastest 500m part of your run.
Looks like they had another epic day at Luderitz and now they broke through 55 knots!!!
(and ladies through 50 knots)!!!

Holy sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
How did he end up stopping? Tim, were you still there when this happened?
