Hey guys,
Just letting you know some of us Barossa crew are getting full on in to speed kiting and are cracking some reasonable speeds over 40 knots , if your interested check it out on www.gps-kitesurfing.com
cheers chap, rob just made a new board left foot rear for goolwa channel and sandy point plus a bought a south African cape dr custom speed board for the job , so we are hoping for 30 to 45 knots of wind so we can take the big boys on.
Hi guys,
I tryed out the Goolwa channel on saturday for some speed kiting with the windsurfers. The wind was gusty as, but I had a fun day and scored a max speed of 37.1 knts.
Here are my gps tracks.
looks good Rob, cant wait to get down and rip in 30+ knots . I hope we can go quicker than the windsurfers.
That's why I was so apreciative of that post so I can buy a kite that goes fast!!
I might get a red one, they go faster!!
Oh kitecroc what are you trying to say?
check out www.gps-kitesurfing.com
sebastien cattelan holds the world record at 50.26 knots and he is the quickest man ever with a 61.7 knots max speed gps plus he is the 2008 kitespeed world champion. not bad hey
Hey jimmy, heading down south I reckon on sunday might be windy to post some quick speeds. set up my new fin on the speed board , cant wait to try it out. That reminds me, have to charge the gps up.
hey tim, just picked up my waterproof casing for the hd camera, should get my spped board up to spec an film your runs.
the board might be sweet after its cut to buggery. might need to get some different straps at some stage, those cabrinha straps are ****e.
No worries, it is a good website. you should get in to some speed kiting and post ya speeds . It would be good to see some more aussie dudes taking on the new zealanders and euro blokes on gps kiting.
i guess the main reason is to stop drag, toeside fins create drag and by cutting off the toeside edge your board wil slice through the water alot more efficiently, similar to a single ski
hey wf,
if you want to make a twin tip into a speed baord cut the toeside area fromt the pad to rear of the board which creates less drag and more control at high speeds. only one problem with a twin tip is that it has to much rocker so it will restrict your top speeds to around 40 knots with a good board and kite combo.
Thanks,
Will have to try the GPS thing some day.
Have pulled some big speeds around the sand bar at Whyalla at half tide, fully powered 9m and dead flat water, but only about 100m long runs before it gets too choppy again. Real buzz though.
Cheers
AB
yeah get ya facts correct kitecrockhead............. ps i know what you think of nth kites so no need to respond
For anyone thats interested these are my home made assymetrical directional speed boards. These types of boards are designed for minimum drag and maximum control at 40 + knts. The rocker is basicly flat from the tail to the front foot strap and some nose lift from there. Flex is a bit stiffer than a normal twin tip.
Two boards are needed, one for right foot back and one for left foot back. They are ridden backwards to get back upwind to start a run and sailed approx. 130 degrees off the wind.
PS. Warning, speed kiting is an addictive buzz
