Hi guys,
I tryed out the Goolwa channel on saturday for some speed kiting with the windsurfers. The wind was gusty as, but I had a fun day and scored a max speed of 37.1 knts.
Here are my gps tracks.

Dumb question, but why cut the toe side edge off the board?

cheers

i guess the main reason is to stop drag, toeside fins create drag and by cutting off the toeside edge your board wil slice through the water alot more efficiently, similar to a single ski

hey wf,
if you want to make a twin tip into a speed baord cut the toeside area fromt the pad to rear of the board which creates less drag and more control at high speeds. only one problem with a twin tip is that it has to much rocker so it will restrict your top speeds to around 40 knots with a good board and kite combo.

Thanks,
Will have to try the GPS thing some day.
Have pulled some big speeds around the sand bar at Whyalla at half tide, fully powered 9m and dead flat water, but only about 100m long runs before it gets too choppy again. Real buzz though.

Cheers

For anyone thats interested these are my home made assymetrical directional speed boards. These types of boards are designed for minimum drag and maximum control at 40 + knts. The rocker is basicly flat from the tail to the front foot strap and some nose lift from there. Flex is a bit stiffer than a normal twin tip.
Two boards are needed, one for right foot back and one for left foot back. They are ridden backwards to get back upwind to start a run and sailed approx. 130 degrees off the wind.
PS. Warning, speed kiting is an addictive buzz
