Forecast for a bit of wind on Friday from SW. Is there anywhere you can kite in South East Queensland in a south westerly that is suitable for a beginner? (I can ride upwind)
If you are on the Gold Coast you can try the tip of the sand spit that forms the western side of what is known locally as "Bums Bay" (possibly due to all the supposed "bums" living on their boats in the bay)
Drive down seaworld drive past seaworld and turn left at the end and then left again. Travel to the southern end of that sand spit.
It is open to the southwest and has a good beach for launching.
Best to only kite here on an incoming tide and for experienced kiters.
The only other spot is the famous "Pin" but you need a boat to get to that great location (fortunately !!!)
Google Earth Pic of "bums bay" or sometimes referred to as "The Red Barge" which is the ship visible near the south western tip of the sand spit.

Thanks Fitzy... Might hit it up if the wind stays SW on Friday.
Otherwise I've heard that Bongaree beach on Bribie is also pretty good, though I've never been there. Anyone taken their kite out there?
I know this is a bit late but Wellington Point is pretty good in a westerly as well. Actually it was quite good on Friday at high tide (being a low high) with runs to king island in .5 to 1 m deep water. Can also position yourself on the west side of the sandbar so the breeze is onshore if you are a beginner.
Actually went to Wellington Point on Friday...
Was excellent in the morning on that west side lagoon, the wind dropped off in the afternoon though...
