Hey guys, I was at a function at the yacht club on Saturday night, watching the kites and wishing I was out there. Just a reminder to all that we aren't supposed to be up to top end near the pier, between the slipway and the pier. We are lucky enough to have amazing spaces to ride in Melbourne, but let's not go stuff it up by ignoring the responsibilities associated with being granted the access.
Anyone see that person flying their kite from the pier at about 7pm on Sunday? I think it was an orange Naish..
Had to go and ask why he was trying to get our sport banned
Said something to the extent of "I am a SUP instructor" and kbv had not informed him
You CANT kite ON the pier
Cheers Dude. No hard feelings, I live here and love my local spot, please don't get it banned for us.
I don't mean this in any sort of negative way or anything, but really, some people just need a cold hard punch in the dick sometimes.
Who on earth would think that that was a smart idea? Jesus.
I was watching from the beach picker, what happened in the end? It looked to me he got the kite up, jumped off the pier, then crashed the kite again.
Mates had a firm talk with this guy about this. He actually had a board that was used for a demo, so I found out who is was quickly. He doesn't work for any kite school in the area and isn't from St Kilda, he is also not employed by any SUP school. When I chatted with him and explained the local rules he apologised and assured he won't break the rules again. He was approached about this situation the same day and the issue was resolved.
Yeah man same board but the demo was with Naish North and Best. This guy was just down to demo some gear. Going to have people sign a form stating the local rules and regulations from now on. There's a legit skim company thats going to introduce a new skim for kiters and will have some up for demo soon in VIC.
I've seen this same guy a while ago at dog beach in Brighton, cutting in all the way to shore and jumping over the dogs in the shallow water. A lot of very angry dog owners complaining about the sport there... Some people saying they'll be talking to the council.
While at the same time there were a bunch of other kiters out in front of the beach area but keeping away from the dog beach and not causing any problems. There was plenty of room, he just wanted to show off by boosting and jumping right on the shore.
At one point he threatened a dog owner that if he didnt stop his dog from going for him when he cuts in close, that the dog will get hurt.
He was being launched by people in Kite Republic shirts when he crashed his kite repeatedly.
There seems to be momentum building here...
In an effort to set the records straight, it would be good to hear from Kite Republic on the subject of their involvement in "Piergate", and their consensus about the relative safety with regards to pier launching. Guys?
Just my 3cents......on one occasion I was passing that guy having right of way.......going right shoulder forward and closer to the wind,I did put my kite high and mainted my course, but he didntlet me pass safely, came very close waving his hand showing me his anger that I didnt keep further from him ........unless I dont understand Right of Way........!!!
