Hi everyone,
Here is the submission KBV made in response to the St Kilda Harbour concept plan in 2008. The images you have posted Picker are part of this original plan.http://www.kbv.org.au/kbvdocs/2008/080918_stkilda_harb_kbv_draft_submission.pdf
Currently there is only approval and funding for stage 1 of the project which includes the extension of the breakwater and replacement of the current marina with a modern floating one on the opposite side of the main jetty arm, giving us more room for kiting. The hardstand protruding into the kiddie pool faced strong opposition from KBV as well as some councilors. It is mentioned on page 25 of Unchain St Kilda's policy www.unchain.org.au/unChain_Policy_CouncilElections.pdf who now have a strong presence in the City of Port Phillip council.
This is the best diagram I've found of what to expect once the construction is finished. www.rmys.com.au/site/yachting/rmys/downloads/Marinaupgrade/Jan%2030%202012%20harbour%20layout%2031-27526-K101-RB.pdf
The RMYS is also posting regular updates on the construction process on their website at www.rmys.com.au/default.asp?Page=64305
Hope this information helps make things a little clearer.
And Picker there's no need to wait for the next AGM, KBV is seriously in need of more volunteers to help as part of the committee. I'll post the date and location of our next meeting in the KBV forum. Anyone is welcome to attend.

Can you send me you details via PM so we can get in contact.

Thanks, that makes it much clearer. So on balance, not a bad outcome for kiting provided the hardstand never gets the go ahead.
I will supply free deoderant to the first euro who climbs to the top of the crane sitting on the barge and kiteloop there way down.
Put up a pic of this crane, I'd be keen...
So I just had a thought.... How many kites have been wrapped around yachts over the years? And how many yachts have ran into kiters =0. I know which ones are worth more & that's why the marina will go ahead regardless of what us kiters think, their yachts are worth plenty & need to be protected.
We just need another break wall somewhere... Maybe kbv will arrange it.....
Thanks for the update KBV.
But there is a glaring ommission in that layout map, there are approximately 70 boats on swing moorings where the new floating marina will be situated.
They have to be re-located somewhere.
The last I heard, they will be put around the east side of the existing old marina (ie where our favorite yellow boat is) and to the North. At low tide, there is bugger-all room to the east and the relocated boats will be using most of it. In this case, kiteboarders will not be gaining space but losing it.
There was talk of putting some of these boats in the area currently occupied by the existing old marina as it is slated for demolition. But for some reason, the decision to relocate swing moorings into this space was reversed. Could be a timing issue.
You might like to query Parks and RMYS about this. I believe there is a layout of the proposed re-location sites.
