I'm prepared to get a whole lot of flak, but....

I was kiting off St. Kilda last night between St Kilda and Williamstown - a little way out - and I saw what I initially thought was a log about 10m long. It was a wierd shape, without a fin or anything, and it sunk into the water as I got close. I've got a strong feeling it was a small whale.

Anyone else seen any big marine activity up the top of the bay ?

I know there was a sighting a beacon cove in July (http://port-phillip-leader.whereilive.com.au/news/story/whales-seen-at-beacon-cove/).

I wasn't deliberately kiting over to check out a whale (just in case I get flamed), I honestly thought it was a log.

Dunno about Whales or sharks but i have seen dolphins and penguins in St Kilda.
The penguins were following and chasing me the other day by the harbour wall.
