Central Queensland Blokart Club will be hosting the 2012 Australian Blokart Open on Farnborough Beach, Yeppoon, Queensland, Australia, out of the Mercure Capricorn Resort ( www.capricornresort.com.au ).
Friday 16th will be a registration/practice day. Early registration is preferred. Saturday morning will take late registrations.
Saturday, 17th, Sunday, 18th and Monday, 19th March 2012 will be race days.
The event will consist of short course racing on Saturday and Sunday and a 100km marathon on Monday.
Short course racing will be scored for the Australian Open Title separately from the marathon which will be a stand alone bonus race.
The event will be run similarly to the 2011 Qld Titles and 2011 Cape Hillsborough Regatta with production and performance classes of the same weight division racing in the same races with classes scored separately to allow for the maximum number races to be held.
Classes offered will be production and performance with weight divisions to be adjusted to even fields. Traditional weight breaks may not necessarily be used with weight groups to be adjusted to allow more evenly filled fields.
Light, Middles, Heavies and Supers will be offered if enough early entries are received.
Yeppoon is located on the Queensland coast 40km north of Rockhampton (closest major airport) and 680km north of Brisbane (closest International airport). Accommodation is available from caravan/ camping grounds, up to holiday rental houses and motel and resort rooms. Capricorn Resort offers direct access to the beach and secure kart storage.
Scoring will be on a lowest point's winners system, with 1 point for a first, 2 points for 2nd, 3 points for 3rd etc. A Did Not Finish is number of races in the field plus 1, a Did Not Start is number of races in the field plus 2 and a Disqualification is number of races in the field plus 3. Electronic transponders will be used. Transponders may be hired or purchased or compatible Mylaps units may be used.
For those who are not attending the World Title's at Ivanpah, this will give you an Aussie based event to mix it up with some of best blokarters in Australia and beyond. For those that are going to the Worlds, it will give you some extra practice before you fly out.
International and long distance entrants may be able to secure a local kart or chassis (byo sails and mast) to borrow / hire for the event to minimize freight costs. These would be of limited availability and on a first in offer. Karts may be shared by different weight classes with only one being able to enter the marathon for points or shared with no points allocated.

Last days for discount entry to the Australian Blokart Open.
It not only saves you money but makes the event run better if we have your details in early.
If you are in need of a chassis and are travelling from afar, we may still be able to hook you up with a seat. Contact me if you need assistance.

Event T shirts are now available in limited numbers.
White are $16 for small to XL, XXL are $ 18, Grey are $18 for small to XL, XXL are $20.
Sizes are quite generous with Matthew modelling a large in grey ( as much as he would prefer to wear them tighter, he weighs 82kg) and Saartjie in a small white. My girth needs a XL to be a comfort fit.
Shirts can be purchased from our place before the event or at Yeppoon from Wednesday, 15-3-2012.

Monday's 100km marathon (this is where a ratchet pulley is useful) will start as soon as we can get beach access which should be around 10.30am / 11.00am after an even shorter briefing on the beach.
Short course presentations will be held Sunday afternoon in Sweetlips to allow those leaving early and not competing in the marathon to attend the presentation.
Marathon presentation will be Monday afternoon in Sweetlips room.
Almost fully packed!
We leave for Yeppoon Wednesday morning and the kids get left home alone.
Practice and beers from Wednesday pm.
The wet weather has cleared and the wind is still up.
The 2012 Australian Blokart Open is definitely on and we are ready to race.
Our crew are looking at getting an early night so we can all be ready to race in the morning.
Get ready for some great racing.
Great day of racing, light wind but great for tec sailors. ShoUld be better tomorrow, looking forward to some great action. Thanks to the organisers who have put on again another superbly run regatta. Great to be apart of such a proactive bunch. Team Adrenalin Rush!!
Day two brought totally different conditions from day one.
Sunday broke with overcast skies and rain but also sufficient wind (more than sufficient for some!).
Most run with three metre sails with some opting for four metre sails.
The rain stuck around all day but we still managed to get in almost a full day of racing.
The race has been run and won with the additional bonus 100km marathon to be run Monday.

Another fantastic event run and done.
By all reports we all had a great time.
Today's marathon was a test of endurance in fresh conditions.
Details will be posted when we get home so here are the photos of Production and Performance trophy winners.
A very big thankyou to all the organizers for the event who put in so much time and effort in to running this event. Also to all the competitors both well seasoned and the newcomers, I had a wonderful time once again. Hope to see you soon somewhere where the wind is blowing.
