At tonight's club meeting a tentative date and venue has been suggested for the inaugural CQB 100.
Cape Hillsborough Resort on September 11,12 and 13. Friday 11th, being a social day with racing on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th.
Accommodation is currently available with package rates being discussed. Units and powered tent and van sites available.
Format will depend on wind conditions with a possibility of 100km on both days if strong wind is present, or 50km each day in lighter wind
or 2 x 25km each day for a total of 100km. Competitor numbers and volunteer officials will also play an important part in this decision.
Planning is still moving ahead with many factors still to be confirmed.
This is our first CQB 100 and any support will be appreciated, with the event hopefully to be held annually and rotated between our
regions beaches.
Transport from Mackay to Cape Hillsborough for air travellers will be available.
Resort web site is www.capehillsboroughresort.com.au
Further information will be posted when available.
Darren.

All permits now in place, thanks to Tourism Mackay and others involved. Registrations coming in already from Victoria and locally.
Early registrations will assist with classes to be run, with enough entries we will try and run all classes.
Some of the out of towners are booking a longer stay in Mackay and we will try and arrange some extra sailing at our other beaches
with them. Plans are now in place so send your entries in. If you have any trouble downloading forms, contact me and I'll email or fax
them as required. Our email is djbdlb@bigpond.com and phone is 0439775595 or 0749521889.

Entries nearly at 50 now, with a couple more late starters possible. Looks like we will be in for a good meeting with Friday's forecast showing 13 knots and (hopefully) increasing over the weekend. Everything seems to be in place so get ready for a great event.

It is not to late to join us in the biggest non national Blokart event held in Australia. As quoted by Darren we are at 49, with a couple more known late entry's. Over 77 for dinner night alone!! Come and be a part of a new annual Karting event for Australia. Ph Dave:0749543465 or Darren:0749521889.
We will be looking at the karters on the the other side of the ditch for the next one!!

CQBC's first Regatta has been run and by all reports we should start booking in for the next one already.
We were blessed with clear weather and moderate winds. The company was great and the racing was very competitive and the main thing friendly.
With this race under our belt we will endeavour to run more events. The interest shown by participants will promote this regatta to a level that will make it a "must do" event. Competitor entries were in the early 50s, with over 90 at the Saturday night dinner.
Racers ended up with eleven heats each over the two days of sailing with several novices joining the more experience racers on the podium.
Thanks to all those who helped out and those who raced for making this a wonderful event.
Results and photos will be posted soon.

Thanks to all,
Darren.

This footage from Ocky's Computer Services is on youtube and shows some of the fun runs. See it at

The guys showed up and fitted cameras to two karts and enjoyed the view. More coverage was on Channel 9 local news and another 3/4 page feature in the Mackay Daily Mercury and ABC radio and web site.
Who knows, a bit more of this and it might get popular!

The 100km format got changed early in planning when we looked at the logistics of running it at Cape Hillsborough. We would have ended up with around 100 laps on the course we used and manual scoring would have been difficult and the track would have been chopped up after that many laps. The idea is still to run a 100km race most probably at Yeppoon with the longer beach there a better choice.
Some of the Yeppoon members are keen to get another event down there going and with what we learnt from this regatta it should make some bits easier to do.
Bucasia Beach would still be viable with 25 laps needed to cover the distances. We have done around that distance at Bucasia with social sailing in one tidal session so it is possible.
With support from keen Rockhampton/Yeppoon members Farnborough Beach is probably a better choice but be warned, it takes a lot of work.
The club will need some local info on suitable tide/wind times to start arrangements.
Let's keep the ball rolling and anything is possible.
Darren.
