Merry Christmas from New Mexico,
Thought you guys might be interested in a photo I took at Ivanpah a couple of weeks ago/
Built by Terry Fulbright from US Fed 5 parts and some fairly exotic tubing. Center-of-boom sheeting attaches to a cable that clips over the driver. Sail is a 5meter unit from a US Fed.
I ended up with the original Fed body/seat
maybe there is some building in my future, since I'd like to try slinging it under my Rocket chassis.

Nice design..... pity it doesn't have the correct size wheels to suit the International Mini5.6 class rules.
Yeah, the wheel size issue is causing a major brouhaha on this side of the water. Every one agrees that we'll use FISLY rules for the Worlds in 2014, but the politics of federalism are raging to decide which association has precedence over class rules for US events. We already have the BloKarts and Siroccos doing their own thing, it would be a shame to have the minis spin off too. This cart is owned by the creator of the US Mini class so you can see how there might be some discussion... and yes it is quick, though I'm thinking a really nice sail made more difference than the really nice wheels.
Blake
with a good breeze on clay the yacht could get scary really fast
love it.
id love to start really playing with 20" wheels on the back of my mini, but have put them aside for the future, maybe just a little cl5 for lil stig to grow up in
Landyacht,
That is a very interesting looking yacht in your profile pic; is there anything lurking in the forums about its construction?

Blake I've been designing a simple plywood 5.6 mini. I designed it to be 96'' long overall to fit the back of my truck. Enclosed cockpit for a little more warmth for iceboating. If it works it may be a fun project for wood workers or wanabee woodworkers. I'm trying to Farmer into going the fray.

good for you john, Dave would be a good one to have on board! OK Dave get on board...have at it lightman we need you and and more bunches mini's
I love the 20" wheels to but in the interest of having an international class that has plenty of room to experiment I think moving to the 16" wheels was a small price to pay to see this class get well and truly established across the world.

one thing i didnt like about my mini was the hand steering. with that and the sheetng it was just a capsize waiting to happen.
then you had to be able to get out of the box.
i plan to convert it to foot steering with a sliding adjustment like my 5, so that the lil kids can sail it with ease
Hola,
Trying to clear this up...Are there really 3 Australian mini classes? From a long and somewhat acrimonious forum read, I thought you had settled on two, essentially one like International 5.6 and one where pretty much anything that fit in the 5.6 rope was okay. What about New Zealand?
Blake
Gidday Blake,
As far as I know, for official competition events, Australian landsailors follow the international 5.6m rules.
However- with the amount of experimentation and tinkering that goes on- there is a fair chance you will find
a "not quite 5.6m compliant" landyacht mixed in with the fleet trying out the latest idea,
or at internal club level- rules can be a bit flexible.
I am sure someone else will chip in fairly soon!
Stephen
Just to add a little fat to the fire; What is wrong with owning a LLFMini 5.6 with a spare set of wheels that might happen to be 20"/32" if you want as long as the Hubs are identicle to the requirements of your Platform Chassis (Talk to Chook).. A quick change around gives you Competition Craft and then you also have something a bit different to experiment with??
OR
Am I just being obtuse??
To me Rolling Resistance(RR) is a great variable in all of our venues, soft surfaces, Hard Tarmac, Grass etc Large dia tends to lower RR and smooth out bumps, smaller Dia is good on soft surfaces as long as the gain contact areas that are greater. It then becomes a question of FAIRNESS and so we have to set a Competition Standard.. Great! No one has yet said you can't play on our field if you are not competing. I would think it is all relitive to what you are intending at the time, furthermore Competition rules should leave as little as possible to the imagination as we are all looking for an EDGE as competitors.
Competition will bring out the worst in many people. Hence we are all punished for the misdemeanors of the few.. Sound familiar???

PS, what has happened to the Spell Checker???
