sail have gone to the maker for modification

my entry the 1st Lake Lefroy cake comp
eat your heart out......enjoy...its fulla sherry
That is one hell of a yacht Gibber!!!!!!
Lots of work has gone into that.
The cake is beyond belief.................................. I'm gob smacked.
No Deserty not in this configuration, when sails come back will finish mast and boom, then first trial.
if all goes well, will add my brake setup, and try again. If it passes [my expectations] it will be about the end of year
maybe too hot, so probably will sit down till about march, then load up all gear for a bush push. If all goes well, then all is
set to go on the big one [secret till underway] skedaddling on may 1
edit........plus allow inconsistency for seniors moments....Oh S**t
cant agree with you landy, my totem the Willy Wagtail has chirped in my ear
that "the Little Stigg" has all bases covered! . He only whispers in my
ear when what he has heard is the ducks guts, that's where he is putting his money
edit ? are you saying that it has arrived in a recognizable condition with Australia post...just faith!
Great looking rig there Joe! Hopefully with any luck we may be able to lure you down to Kingston in Jan 2014 for a look

sorry mate no signs of anything
Today dec 27, new cut sails first look at
edit....nearly ready to rock and roll, a few fittings to set up
then braking system disc, hydraulic or manual, that's the question?.
Artist will paint mural on sails january, then, trail, ready, pack and p/o may 1
Thanks Hillsy, that was a brilliant thought......Well i liked it anyway....so they be ordered ,
now dont stop thinking.....your input is welcome........seasons greetings
well here goes all coming together for may 1 kick off, will try to get these 3 brake photos up
well that must be twice as good, more to come as job near completion........very, very expensive, just a bit jealous of
you well equipped home engineers, and what you can do and save. Have widened the track by 150mm, and the
actuator handle holder have to be located and welded in before trail runs.
My artist friend is having a viewing of sail paint job this weekend and subject to that paint job starts, so a couple of
weeks we will have colour and a lot will be revealed, save the questions till its all posted....cheers for now
dont know what i am doing , but ive done it again
couple of shots of my brake actuator lever and bracket
in position for welding. Slightly tilted about 15 degrees
forward so as the brake will at rest, will not be resting on the drum,
may need a bit of shock cord as a fail safe, tests will decide.
I have seen what my artist has in mind for the sails, it's great
should be able to post pics a mth from today
Pull handle back to rear of yacht to engage, this apply's
poundage to the belt which slows the wheel. Two independant brakes
so maybe some sort of brake steering will come about.
My brake belts will be made with discarded seat belts material
and or snatch /tye down straps. Checked regularly for wear
but not used for massive heavy braking unless panic....ed
sorting for the on board tool kit
there are three, the heavy duty car , the associate bits and pieces car/cart
and the need to carry on cart/yacht
My trip is in very a isolated/outback area of about 1000 - 1400ks distance, really only 1 town to pass thru
a couple of outback pubs that tend to provide many things, beside beer and food . very limited
phone coverage only expensive solar phones or exp satellite internet.
A couple of rivers with Yellowbelly and Yabbys maybe, also be able to wash the body.
I carry 50ltrs drinking water and have to replenish wherever, so have to capture, settle, drain and boil for drinking.
tom toms and such are not much good in these areas as one has no idea of scale, or the need to read bearings
So top class maps are essential and having a couple of different scales are a good option
have come across many people in trouble in the outback and they are using a 1950's school atlas....no brainer
well how come, it is construction all the bears.......
came across them looking for bits and pieces for the trip, just wouldn't resist
the draw of the Teddy Bears Picnic, so i bought them, cast off city kids stuff.
and i will redistribute them [14] along the way to the bush kids.
Once upon a time men came on horses and had hard boiled lollys, yummy , yummy,
and our teeth fell out, we had discovered sugar. Now nuts with yachts bring Teddys.
So on the first 1500ks of my trip by car, to the kick off point i will be travelling north from home
up thru Orroroo, Hawker. Leigh Creek, Marree, Birdsville, Boluia.....then........
I will drop off in all sorts of places a Teddy for the local kids to find...called recycling
the onboard medical kit, sorting
from toe nail gear bandages[many], elastoplast, creams, oils, splints.
cotton buds, wash kits [sterile] , tweezers, emergency sewing kit, brazilian trimer.
All there except my every day needs, which is not much, panodol , seritide etc.
and then the body beautiful personal ablution gear,
In this country absolute need.....ambulance coverage at about $ 50 per year, for any state or territory
this will get you help, and evacuation. from anywhere if life threatening or needed, at any cost in/to this country,
Not to have this even basic coverage, even at the best of times, would indicate that you are
somewhat "toolish" in your attitude.
This is The Australian Mantle of Safety instigated by The Reverend John Flynn ie
Flynn of the Inland, who with Alfred Trager's help, by putting together the first communication system
the pedal wireless, Flynn established many inland hospitals, Trager went on to devolve radio communication in our
country, a successful system taken up in many country's world wide, to their own adaption.
John Flynn, Alfred Trager, and helpers I salute you.......
just checking the good old gas stove, still working.
Many places you must have gas, open ground fires not allowed. Campfires can be a problem
timber round popular camp spots has been exhausted, a bit like India , not a good thing. Other spots
national parks or similar may supply some wood for cooking , but they can get shirty when irresponsible's
set fire to the wood heap cause they be cold or like a big fire. Many experienced people carry fire wood with
them to where they will camp. others just get the chainsaw out and rip rip woodchip to please themselves. the amount
of people using natural resources is a heavy burden on fauna homeland, so i just prefer the gas for me cuppa and a
quick cook up, rug up and go to bed , watch the stars for something real......
......play a Ukulele
There is NO backup crew. there is only I. testing has been done over about 10 years
as different builds have been incorporated. It is all here on Seabreeze, landyacht forums
you just have to backtrack and a name change as a computer failure left me unable to
enter, the old name being walkaboutjoe. It is not new, just a continuation of what i like to do
i have no problem with what i do as my work life has given me the experiences and knowledge i use
failure is subject to personal perceptions, i don't have a problem with that, i am a free thinker, not
constrained by being out or inside the square. As we move along more will be appearing in print,
but like all others one will have to follow as it unfolds.....its the journey that counts
the bedding kit, heavy duty stretcher, good RMW swag canvas,
couple of favorite blankets, and the mosquito/come fly net, a pillow or two.
I also carry a tarp for cover if there seems there may be inclement weather,
or just a heavy dew. No fun in wet gear, A real bad weather night or day
would mean sitting in chair within a full wet weather gear, that is boring.
There seems to be a proliferation of gear, that's so, but it packs down.
still to come is food, i am eating my mostly dry gear now, accustoming, clothes,
paperwork, entertainment [Ukuleles plus music], water......... you must now think Camel,
beast of burden, as landyachts were used for thru the millennium, not a race about hobby.
Gibberjoe,
Good luck with your fantastic adventure. May I recommend that you purchase an EPIRB in case of emergency. You may not know your exact position, but with an EPIRB they will find you anywhere.
I don't know where you are headed yet Gibber, seems it is going to be very deep outback so I would most definitely recommend the EPIRB too. Even more important than your trusty old gas stove out there and you will love it just as much if it gets you out of the Poo. You can hire them but maybe someone could rise to the occasion and loan you one....w
steady, steady blokes, all the areas where i will be in are areas in which i first traveled, WORKED
in the sixty's and again in the late 70's. This to me is a review trip and has modernism since i was there
they even maintain the roads where once were tracks. Many locals travel here regularly and adventurous visitors
pass thru and occasionally set up fishing holidays away from the world as most people understand it.
i would love to be able to afford all the flash yuppy style gear, gps, eperbe , satphone, ipads etc but that would mean that
i would have to carry lots of extras, such as chargeability goods, more weight , expence, would need backup and probably
an extra person whom wouldn't have my time and association, they would become bored [4 mths target] and argumentative.
I have witness many people in remote places winging all the time, driving other party members up the wall only to go home
and tell everyone how great it was. They should never left their home environment.
my basic wish is to honor the people who did this same trip on horse or camel back as part of their life, the unsung heroes
As i was involved in mapping this very same area, i do have the very best maps over $200 worth which many Australians never
see or understand the scale is 1;250,000. There are many local workers hereabouts in this day and age and on weekends they wander a
few hundred ks to and from their local pubs and supply towns, and their favorite water hole to fish it will not be lonely.
Lotsa local use aircraft and they follow the roads as navigation, the roads travel mostly from point to point. I would expect
to experience some bush landing drop inn for a yabba, that's how they do it put the aircraft down on a two wheel track
with tricycle undercarriages, Now i dont wish tp preach but there is much mythology about outback Australia, the media love it, and people are already
warning me about the bloke from wolf creek, saying he's out there somewhere but we {?} don't know where
Well i just wish to experience it as those originals did, as new as possible and safe too.........
Many ks of my route i have driven 40foot tourist coaches down with 40 peoples on board, they loved it too
edit.....Let me be the first to say..." I could fail " but i think not. What a wonderful way to get away from the bloody
football, tv and the southern winter...
Hay gibber, sounds like a wonderful plan and I agree you probably don't need all that newfangled ****, extra weight and more to break.
But if you take nothing else electric but a torch I think an EPIRB would be a very good idea.
Come on everyone there must be someone on this forum with a spare they could lend Joe for a few months. If I had one it would be yours.
Best of luck hope it all goes well.
thanks Sylk, appreciate your well meaning thoughts and you have put them up here, but i am completely in my comfort zone ,
my homeland, it can not see Indigenous with eperbs in their homelands. If i was out to sea in any boat or wandering the high
wooded country i would carry one and use if necessary. So I appreciate your concern and comment. I have posted here so
that all can see and maybe understand some of Australia taboos and miss information. If some one don't have my background
and training, maybe they can understand a bit better the thought and preparation, that is required when travelling Australia
no matter by what idiom
got it back from welder today and painted iron ore red ...lovely outback colour
split pin holds washer in possy and is limit of wheel hub on axle
