The winter solstice is the 21st of June. So being the shortest day of the year, it will also be the coldest possible conditions to sail, so I thought why not have another get together at Norseman West Australia, where we could well manage some sub zero temperatures to really cap it off.

Not only that it will be a full moon on the Sunday night the 23rd at 9.32pm, so it's really got everything going for it including a night sail.

The plan is to camp on Lake Cowan out past the motor cross track off Airport RD and get some serious sailing in on the perfect surface.

Norseman has some serious hills, so you will be guaranteed to get your bum into your craft even if there is no wind.[}:)]

The plan is a Saturday morning start and to follow our noses as the day progresses. (If you don't have a plan it can't go wrong eh??)

Let's just hope all the planets align and everyone grows a beard, to make sure it happens.
Well George G and I, are already set!!!

Just follow this thread, to keep up to speed on the current conditions and to register your interest.

It will be magikcal.
Cheers Chook

Hey, very interesting gear there gibberjoe.

Sylk are you going to be brave and have a crack with your buggy?

Landyacht, have you found the PVC for your drift wheels yet, this would be a great time to try them out.[}:)]

Yeh blowy and cold here as well, with 72mm of rain in the last 36 hrs.

Should be Big Mick, his Dad Scott, Alan (Ag College manager) and myself.

Heaped it on "Mr Carpet" this morning over a coffee.
He is showing his feminine side and is going to the "Pink" concert in Perth, so a no go for him.
I'd say he's just too soft, to camp on the lake.

so what is that surface like after a shower chook?
Lil stig had a great weekend with the new machine, she started with a 2.4m but on sunday I looked away and she flogged my 4.6 AND the stiff ally race mast.I didnt even get a sail after the wind changed ,the tide came in and cut us off from the salt.
on saturday we couldnt even see the water on the main lake

I don't know. Will have to suck it and see. Gypsum can get a bit gluey.

If it's not flash, it's only another 100 odd kms to Lefroy for us.
I'll probably arrive a bit earlier, so will scope it out and let you know.

Will be in touch beforehand anyway.

Today I talked Chris, another work mate into coming with me as well.
(He was my Pulse jet starter guy for my original test run at the college).
Most of his facial hair has now grown back.

So another "mini" in the mix.

WHAT!!!! Awesome............

Hey what did I tell ya Vic????

Ok you supply the "Dettol".

What size kite were you using in what wind?
I should have something that is "user friendly" here.

Make your side rails a bit higher so you "sit in" the buggy rather than on it. My rails come up quite high on my ribs with plenty of padding and only 380mm between the rail padding under my arms. This is firm but you ride slightly sideways in the seat anyway.
I used 25nb xtralight galv pipe (2.0mm wall) for my rails. The Sysmic buggys use 3.2mm wall. See how the side rails close in over your legs (just the width of the pipe is enough) You sit on it and then slide back into the seat. It wraps round your hips.

Which is easier to bend without special dies.
There is a series of these tutorials here.

Welcome aboard mate!!!!

Hey that's my play pen mate!!!! Nice bug.

I finally found the pics I was looking for last night Paul.
These side rails are for a plastic school chair seat attached with 4 screws.

The pics are not too flash, as the phone camera does not like the over head

vapour lights in my shed.

Eh chook , wifey has suggested a cake competiion!
she reckons we should each bring a besteffort by our dear partners to be judged,
sound like a plan
I worked on a light wind monster sail today , but after setting up in the garden, and going inside to get the camera, i came back to find a shattered mast top!!!!!
and the sail bunched up at the base of the mast, so youll have to wait and see
I will sort out a new swag during the week, I figure so many blankets ,you can move inside
dont forget , no piking out

Ok!!! Cakes at dawn.

I still haven't seen one of George's "upside down pineapple cakes".

Looks like the wind may be light.

I have a couple more guys sniffing about coming up. I'll work on them some more.

Greg was here today, a professional guitar maker by trade, and he's keen to get a sail, in his carefully crafted yacht below.

You'll love this bloke. He can turn his hand to anything and builds his own carbon fibre masts, along with LOTS of other gear his lads make as well.

Hope we have a venue to sail. Will keep in touch and I will head up Thursday.
