I was walking across this area of the Clipsal 500 track the other day ......and got to thinking you could sail a yacht here.....it would be a hoot in winter with 15knots of wind and a good show for the public.
And guess what it's got a GREAT Starting Grid.......
Several Landyachters have sailed on "Mallala" motor race track many years ago....(now some stories could be told about that event!!!)
and this track is wider than "Mallala"
Have a look on google maps for the service road layout as well.

Hey that's a great idea!! I assume google maps photo was taken while the grandstands were up. THere would prbably be no obstuctions to the wind when there not there!! I ride past there every day, I'll drop in for a look tomorrow!

Have they stopped racing horses there now?

I spoke to DR earlier this week, he's definitely heading out on Sunday, but I'm not sure about Saturday. I intend to be there on Sunday too looking at the forcast. We usually get things underway about 12:30 - 1:00pm. Typically theres about 4 - 6 of us there depending on who's available. I usually have to head off about 4:00pm as Sunday nights is family BBQ night for us.

Has anyone had a look at the Clipsal 500 track yet?..
I drove past yesterday and had this thought of 6-8 mini yachts on there would look just GREAT?

I rode past last week, but there was still a lot of clipsal infrastucture around the place. I hope they're going to remove a lot of that. It would be a great place to sail if they do.

I had a look at a large plot of land between Bunnings Parafield and the Parafield Airport.. a little rough and would be a joy for 3 corner jack seed collectors BUT NOT for Land sailers.
