Yeh Ledzep I'm trying to sort something out.
Have a look at the tides here for the Australia day weekend in January.
A full moon as well.
"Click on a location to view tide predictions for 2013"
Make that Esperance. Right down the bottom right.
www.transport.wa.gov.au/imarine/marine-information.asp

We need a SE in the arvo to get to the cliffs (Thats pretty well what happens every afternoon at this time of the day in January.) and a NE next morning for the return trip.
That will be the tricky bit. It happens very regularly, but when your banking on it will it happen?

The sand dunes on the northern end are just HUGE, the largest in the southern hemisphere I'm told. There called the Bilbunya Dunes.

Have a look on Google earth at the beach north of Isralite Bay and then 100kms up to the start of the cliffs.

I'll keep you posted.

It wont be my speed buggy for this one Paul. Lots of comfort for this old chook.[}:)]

Some progress.

I had a meeting with DEC this morning and I got the Ok to use Pink Lake for the "Recycle Regatta". (They even want to enter a yacht of their own)
They have agreed to increase the area, so we can get some land_yachting action happening over this weekend.
So I'll keep you guys posted as it unfolds.

According to the tide chart the beach run to the Great Australian Bight, is not looking good at all.
My neighbour was at Israelite yesterday and it took him an hour to do the beach at low tide right up to the cliffs on his motorbike.
But it took a hard 7&1/2 hour slog back, with a half tide as it's really eroded by the recent storms and they were up in the seaweed.

Keep safe over the festive season, Chook

Well I've hit the wall.

I received this last night from the “Festival of the wind” committee.

I have had a lengthy discussion with the committee in regard to including the Land yachts in the program and they have decided that given the absence of insurance, they do not wish to proceed. This decision is based on the cost to increase our insurance to cover the event and that perhaps there are too many variables that may prevent it from happening on the day - weather, lake conditions etc. as was the scenario last time.
As such, I would like to thank you for your considerable time in this regard.

Yours truly, ………………..

So it means that there will be no insurance, (which they had 2 years ago) or support for the "Recycle Regatta".

Geez “Beachball”, I know how you feel mate.

Well The Esperance "Festival of the wind" event has finally been sorted out.
It's a weekend at Pink Lake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A huge thank you to both Paul and Lyndon from LLLSC for your help is getting me back on the right track.

So,,,,,,,, as originally organized, it will run with racing on Saturday March 16th and a social day of sailing (have a go day for the public) on the Sunday March17th. There is plenty of room for both to happen at the same time.
(If there is no wind on Saturday the racing will run over to Sunday).
Cost will be $10 per competitor /pilot for the whole weekend.

I have arranged for a porta loo to be left onsite all weekend and a Public address system to be available for both days.

The conditions at Pink Lake at the moment are perfect!!!!!
We have had fire trucks on the lake for the last 3 days as the scenery has been modified slightly by an arsonist. Well the 800 hectares around it.

More info to follow when I've had more sleep and my batteries are recharged.
(3 more fires today after school)

This photo was taken on Monday night at 9.58pm (by one of my brigade guys) so you can understand the amount of radiant heat we were dealing with here. The trees and scrub were about 5 or 6 meters high across at the far lake edge.

Cheers Chook

Glad its all back on track chook, we are trying to make it a weekend of minis and blokarts, but would certainly welcome class 5 ,kite buggies, boards etc, indeed anything powered by wind.
chook tells me that the sailing area is 700mwide x2km long and so hard that firetrucks havent been damaging it.great excuse to head to esperence, bring the kayak and fish before or after, still great swimming weather, and a great concert on saturday night ,,,,,Dan Sultan and the Flikerfest short film festival is visiting on the friday night. the local caravan parks are well priiced and great spots, and we will need volunteers to do secutity on the lake saturday night

Geez I'm gifted..........wet weather for both events that are 24 months apart.

Yeh it's a bit damp here from ex tropical cyclone "Rusty", Vic.
It's turned into a rain bearing depression. We have had just over 40mm and it's still raining. (still nothing like what Kalgoorlie has had.)

Not looking too good, as our Pink Lake is mainly gypsum and won't tollerate this amount of moisture.
Will just have to suck it and see.

The beaches are out, as we have 1 metre high tides around mid day with a low of 550mm so there will be very little beach to use. With the high winds we have had, they are laden with weed as well.

Will keep you guys updated.

On a positive note. This rain will do a lot of good in our agricultural areas, as there were a lot of farmers carting water for stock.

I've just ordered a new Revolution, B series 4 line stunt kite, so I'll have something to do during the festival. Gota keep my moral up eh?

The jet would need to be mounted low enough so the radiant heat would dry the surface as it passes and be gps controlled so that overlaping runs would result in a cumulative heating/drying effect[}:)]

Hi everyone, due to the amount of rain we received last weekend
(it's still drizzling with 15 to 30mm forecast for this weekend)
the Esperance “Festival of the wind, land yacht racing and have a go day” has,
OFFICIALLY BEEN CANCELLED.
The lake is just slop!!!!

I hope by doing it at this stage it hasn't wrecked too many plans.

It is a major disappointment as we were so looking forward to hosting this event.

Thankyou to all the people that put in a huge amount of effort.

Bummer!!!!!

Yeh certainly made the right decision to cancel.
Wet today, with 10mm taken out of the rain gauge when I got home from the Ag College at 3.15pm.
Still drizzling now and another 10 to 20mm of rain forecast for Friday Saturday.

Yeh for sure Paul, plan B in 2014 it is. I'm super keen.

It was when “Mr Plod” caught me overtaking the cars that were doing 50 kmh along the Esplanade.
A mate that was watching, text me later to find out if......
I was charged for speeding or not wearing a life jacket.
It was none of the above. Ta for that John.

At least I got 6 runs in from the long jetty to the port entrance so 12 Kms for the Festival.

Lots of interest, but long faces about the “have a go day” being cancelled.

Seabreeze should get a lot of hits on the LLMini construction now.

Oh well see if I can jinx the rain in two years' time and go for a hat trick.

Sick of Pink Lake being wet, so picked this up yesterday with a good sail and a trailer, for a carton of rum.

It's a "Crest Cat" and can't find anything about it on line.
It has an Australian design award sticker on it as well.

Trailer had a blown tyre (bit rude eh??) so it's pictured on my old man's trailer.
