Well the seasons nearly here We had a busy bee at the lake, good work by all those that attended. A couple of new members turned up to help. We closed the day with a Barby, and then a couple of yachts went for a practice sail.
Next week is a tune up day, visitors welcome
Cheers

Shees! aus 230 if you are thinking of laying concrete over that lot in the background then I would suggest a bigger mixer, it'd take for ever with that on on the Trailer.

Bazl, looks like our LL class5s will be out with you on the weekend of jan 15 as we hope to be racing the schooner on the saturday.
off to test some wheels
Looking forward to you guys coming down again
We held a tune up day at the lake yesterday, a few yachts turned up to have a blast around the circuit. A few new members where there to get some sailing experience on the lake. all in all we had a great day. Thanks everyone.
8/1/12 Club 88 Handicap
Great day had by all, the breeze came in on cue at 1pm and we had 20 knots all afternoon. Highlight of the day was a broken axle in the third race - yachts were all pretty close at the time so the fleet got well scattered during the mayhem.
looks like a bit of last years crap didnt get cleaned out
you do realize that when we designed the 88 it was so that you could take your axles out after each weekend and store them away somewhere handy
....and I lost my phone - with all the important numbers not backed up dammit- don't you hate it when that happens?
The first class5 5 event was held for this season with visitors from Kalgoorlie competing.
Paul aus3 gave his new wheels a work out I think he was more than happy with them.
aus230 not so lucky snapping 3 axles(found that the spacer between the bearing had collapsed allowing the axle to bend and snap)
Ronnie aus55, yacht was put out of action in a collision but had a 30 year old yacht as a back up it ,then ended up in the top three places for the rest of the day.
Barry aus4 had his first outing in his new yacht and he was pretty happy with it.
The rest of the days racing was sailed in moderate winds and everyone had a great time followed by a Barby. Thanks everyone.

Video from aus230 last Sunday(wrong date have to work out how to change it) video ends with a broken axle.
Cool vid, Vic!
And by the way the wheel was spinning in the air after the axle failure, it looks like they run nice and true.....[}:)]
OK! The broken axle with the barrow wheel. What are the specs of the axle material including age?? It looks like a severe case of Metal Fatigue close in..
Ron
Think Ron means this one. Which is an odd one to aspire to
Oddly my wheelbarrow wheel looks just like that.....but rustier
Cheers Col
Vics video really brings it home what sort of a battering these wheels and axles take on a regular basis. Not surprising that you get work hardening, metal fatigue and then the typical ally crystalline fracture (my dad talking there - the family metallurgist).
Cheers Col
Sundays class5 event was one of those days, Several races started but where called of as the wind,or lack of it did not get us to the finish line. Only two yachts managed to cross the finish line in the last race of the day before that race was also called of. We still had a good time sitting around and having a couple of stubbies after the event.

Last Sunday was a club88 handicap day. Eight races where completed on the day in steady winds.
The handicapping worked well as there where several winners on the day. Most of us stayed back and had a few stubbies and a barbi.

The weekends event was a class5 scratch race, the wind was fairly light for the first race but by the end of the day it was strong and had every one working hard. It was a great days racing and after the event we some how forgot that me and aus4 had to drive 250k to go home and did not leave the lake to 7pm. But it was fun and good company.
The dream fit team turned up to do some sailing and fine tuning in the yachts built for people with disabilities, one of the yachts was a two seater with electronic joy stick control.

Video from aus230 from the weekend's racing. had to chop a lot out to get it down to a shorter viewing time. Gives a good idea of our sailing venue.
Bit of an impromptu fun day today - a ring around got 7 yachts out for something different, reach racing.
From a rolling start 400m to a starboard turn then back to the line. The first two yachts get points for rounding another mark 200m further on, with the rest of the fleet finishing at the line. When the last yacht crosses the line the process is repeated continuously. Ideally the first two are disadvantaged by the additional distance to travel so the points are shared around. Good fun, but need a break after 25 minutes or so.
The final class5 event was run last weekend. The wind was light with lots of wind shifts during the event which made for some difficult sailing decisions, if you made the wrong decision of what line to take you would be left becalmed while others who picked up on wind shifts sailed right past. All in all we had a good day and enjoyed a barby and light refreshments after the event.

I rather enjoyed watching the racing Vic , it all looked rather hard work at times
I kept thinking about what line I would have taken to beat the lot of you , but then i would realize that id be getting frustrated and becalmed like everybody else
I was rather impressed by AUS 4 barry Pulford , in 1 race he sailed past and shouted" what have done wrong,?" as he was stunned to be so far in front!!!![}:)]
Dam that,s it season over.
Last Sunday the last event for the year was held. It was a club88 handicap event. The winds where light but steady all day except for the last race which left most of us pushing our yachts back to the club house. The lake was cleared of all our markers and we finished up the day with a barby and a nice roast cooked on the weber.
AGM will be held 10th June.
Next event Lake Lefroy end of September.
