The Sangropers class5 season has started of with some great racing, There has been two class5 sailing days so far.

Blokarts will sail for the same divisions as shown for each day (handicap, scratch, championship)
On days marked as Club Championship, scores count for the Club Champion trophy,
All other days, scores count for the Consistency trophy. Club 88 handicap results will be extracted from all consistency days.

Next Sunday 9th Jan the Lake Lefroy club will be racing at Lake Walyungup, They will be bringing 5 class5 yachts down. I should imagine they will give it a red hot go to let the sandgropers know that they are back in business.
It is a 1200k round trip for these guys so lets give them a good welcome but don't show any quarter as I am sure they don't intend to give us any.
Some of them have sailed at the lake before but I believe there a couple of new sailors attending to.
I think it will be a great weekend and welcome to the Lake Lefroy Club

The weekend event at Lake Walyungup was a great success, The event was held as a club88 handicap event which created some great racing, The top three placed sailors certainly earned there places.

The conditions of the day led to some fast racing as strong winds where the order of the day.
Rabbit was unfortunate, snapping of the front steering assembly of his yacht in the first race.
The day ended up with smiles all round , The Lefroy crew had a great time, Packed there trailer and headed of on there trip home (600k) Thanks for the great show guys and a few of us will see you all again in September at Lefroy.

what the score board doesnt tell was that i was beaten in one race for the first 3 marks by Andy B's son in a blokart
and it wasnt from lack of trying on my part

A class5 scratch race was run on the weekend, The first race was canceled due to lack of wind, the southwester came in soon after and the racing continued, Some very close and competitive racing was the result, most yachts finished the day in one piece.
Rabbit bent his front end during the last race and had to withdraw. Aus230 blew a back wheel to pieces (damaged from a previous impact)

The club championship class5 event was run under windy/gusty(18-25knots) sailing conditions today.
Ron aus28 was flying on the day but was the puncture man on the day with 4 flat tires.
Vic in aus230 broke another axle (think I should change them more often)

a couple of yachts where blow over while sitting on the starting line, however a great days racing was shared by everyone
aus230 carried a gps today to get some idea what speeds we where getting up to in the wind conditions , Highest was 86.5k but a couple of yachts where going quicker that that as I could not catch the while using the GPS

Just looking at the pic's in this subject. There are a variety of sail shapes. Now can you give me an unbiased reply[}:)][}:)]
(Most people reckon theirs is the best) which style is the best for gaining top speeds. Yours does look good but are looks deceiving??

Dam that is a hard question to answer, Depends a lot on the conditions of the day and the operator. Most of the sails are similar but some go a lot faster due to experience. some change there sails if the conditions change , a couple use square top sail and go like hell if the conditions are right. My R&J sail is very quick in light conditions but is a handfull if the wind pics up. my other sail is far better in high winds but have to stand the mast up to 10degrees for it to work. Maybe others could coment as I think I have made this as clear as mud

Together your comments are much clearer. Obviously aus your Avatar shows one Sail but I would like to see the other for a better understanding.
From what You (Collective) told me then I would imagine my new sail, if it ever comes, will be a definite Low Wind sail as it is fairly square at the top 1mtr by about 1.75 mtr at the base @ around 6 - 6.5SqM. I guess I will have to keep the Missus away from me when she Farts[}:)][}:)] She would more than likely drop me on my side

Race day 13/2/11 Handicap
No photos yet but shall endeavour to get out to the lake with the camera tomorrow and get pics of the board.
Six blokarts and six Club 88 yachts suffered through an initially frustrating day for sailing with an E to NE part time breeze of between 0 and about 10 knots. The wind didnt seem to be able to make up its mind which direction to come from nor whether to blow or not. The first three races took two and a half hours to get through (not continuously of course) before the sea breeze kicked in at a steady 10-15 knots. Then everybody could get up and boogy and there were smiles all round, although there was only another two further races run.
A mostly enjoyable incident free day with the exception of a couple of flat tyres. Well done to Joe for leading the blokart division from start to finish in two of the difficult races.
Special thanks to Graeme for foregoing sailing to do the starting/course marshal duties and to Donna for scoring. Also good to see Errol from the Lake Lefroy Club who paid a visit while in town.
Another good days class5 racing with the wind blowing and gusting 25ks+.
6-3 lap races where run, followed by a ten lap handy cap marathon which took the starch out of everyone. The day finished of with a Barby. Thanks Guys gals.

Lake Walyungup gets a reprieve this week with a trip away to Leeman for the WA long weekend.

A class5 club championship event was run on the weekend under frustrating conditions with the wind dropping to zero causing the first 2 races to be canceled, the wind finally settled down into a moderate southerly, There was some frustrating times to be had on the southern end of the course with quite a few yachts almost coming to a standstill in an area of the lake that appeared to be lacking any sort of wind. The blocarts where also competing on a short course in the same races and put on a good show.

Looks like the Sandgropers had a great club88 handicap event on the weekend, Strong winds where again the order of the day. Rabbit was back after a several week break and was back going for it.(Go Rabbit)

What a great weekend, We had visitors at the lake from the THE DREAM FIT TEAM, looking at our yachts to see if it was possible to get disabled people into land yachts with some designs changes, They where a great group of people. Hope they enjoyed the day as much as we enjoyed having them there.
The class5 scratch races where held under light to moderate wind conditions with all 8 race's being completed, at the end of the day we had a Barby and a couple of drinks which finished of the day.
