was in wellington for work and found this cool old pic from a memories magazine.

Land yacht built in 1942, and being sailed at Piha Beach.

The story in the mag says "Dad decided to build a sand yacht (sound familiar anyone??) using the sail from my yacht Z29. I went with him to the tip at Middleton Road where about a dozen old motorcycles had been dumped. He gave the custodian five shillings and we proceeded to hacksaw off three front forks, complete with wheels and tyres for the project. We built a frame from a triangle of oregon 4x2's, with a sucessful result. My mast and sail was also used on the Piha surf boat to sail up to Muriwai Beach on one occasion" end quote.

Do not know who the author is but its pretty cool.
