oh so I guess now is as good a time as any....The South Australian blokart and land sailing club is up and running, or should I say up and sailing As the name suggests we are a state wide club and also as the name suggests we cater for those that sail blokarts and those that sail land yachts. We are still in the process of crossing the I's and dotting the T's but in essence we are a bonifide club with a constitution and INSURANCE.
We welcome anyone who has a desire to give blokarting and or land sailing a try or anyone who is looking for an alternative to what is currently available here in SA.
We run blokart, class 5 and an open class which is a sort of "run what you brung" class, we welcome everyone and as long as people comply with the rules of our club no one will be turned away..
We have several sites around Adelaide that we sail and several sites around the sate that we have access to also for "away trips" and sailing weekends away.
Our club has a strong focus on family participation and when not sailing we still are planning to have social "outings" as a club eg BBQ's, play ground get togethers with the family and so on.....
We have set up a face book page for information and anyone who wants to look at photo's and such like, Our facebook page is... South Australian blokart and land sailing club every one is welcome to stop by for a look or to join the Dark Side. So stop on by the facebook page and join us,,, remember "the force is strong on the dark side"

an amendment of the above post.. Due to certain "complications" that have arisen since my posting this, we as a club have decided to distance ourselves from the land yacht side of the club and focus solely on blokarting, we will be known as the South Australian Blokart club,,,we will still have a facebook page for those that want to have a look at what we are doing, the South Australian blokart club, all other detail will remain the same as before with the exception of the land yachts.. At some future point in time we may be able to cater for those that wish to land sailing but for the time being as I said we are now concentrating on blokarting. By doing this we hope to avoid any clash with any other club or group or assoc, but having said that, if you think that you might want to give blokarting a crack then by all means look us up on facebook and came and have some fun.

Blokarts ARE land yachts BUT land yachts are not necessarily Blokarts.

So where does the problem lie??

Is it philosophical or is it insurance???

Hi all.

I'm Pete, based in the windy west of Adelaide.

Decided to have a bash at building myself a mini, as it looks like such fun. Basically following landyacht's plan, with a few minor mods. Picked up cart materials yesterday from Bunnings (wheelbarrow wheels) & a steel merchant. Found a bloke on the south side of the city selling a windsurfer and came home with a board, two fibreglass masts, 2 standard ( ? ) sails and a storm sail, plus three booms. Got a bunch of boat fittings in the shed and so hopefully....I should be sailing by next week. Of course that depends on whether Mrs. Doqo has any unannounced plans.

I hope to be able to make the Kingston bash. In the interim, I'll post construction pics in the appropriate thread.

See you on the sand !

Hi Pete,
While you still have the receipt for Bunnings take the wheels back (they are to soft for a land yacht and you will need to replace them within a short time, so a waste of money) Go to Adelaide Merchandising just off Richmond rd. and get some plastic 'Fallshaw' wheels.

I hope you have seen the thread of how to build a Lefroy mini yacht on seabreeze.

Send me a message if you need anymore info.... I'm in Adelaide also.

Hi Gizmo

Thanks for that. I've got the receipt, so back they go. Hope Adelaide Merchandising are open today. I'll try again at 09h00.

I did read that thread and am grateful to landyacht for having documented the build in such detail. Thanks also for the offer to assist. I'll certainly take you up on that.

Just a note the ones in your link Gizmo are not Fallshaw. The original pictures of them on the first page are, but in the specs they are not.

Bit of a catch. As you said, it's very important that they are Fallshaw with 20mm high speed sealed bearings to stand up to the pressure but more importantly the quality of the plastic for the heat.
"Landyacht has tested most of them to destruction"

You need "Fallshaw" 400 x 8 KNO rim and tyre, with 2 PWB10 black adapters, to take 2 of 6004 rubber seal (20mm), high speed bearings. All times 2.

I get mine from,
http://staging.easyrollmh.com.au/wheels-castors/pneumatics/plastic-pneumatics/

The bottom of the page for rim/tyre, across for bush PWB10 and with the second line down of the bearings 107mm x 20mm.

Hope this helps and we look forward to your build pics. Yell out if you get stuck.

You can also get Fallshaw steering head bushes for 20mm shaft. "SB 20" is the part number (about $1.70 each from memory)
They fit into exhaust tube "sn" said. ( I have just machined up heavy walled water pipe, for them to fit, as that's what I had on hand).

Grey are SB 3/4", black are SB 20mm ID, Inside diameter.

Your going to just love these LLMini's

Thanks Chook. Will enquire with AM on Thursday regarding those specs. Just swung past and they're closed with a sign on the door.

Gizmo, just wondering where one would sail around the Adelaide metro area. I was thinking of the beach between Grange and Semaphore. That's normally pretty quiet.

Also, any idea what the reg's are for sailing on a beach in SA ?

When the beaut blokes at the "Easyroll Materials Handling" warehouse in Perth gave me these bushes to try out, I took the 3/4" and 20mm bushes into an exhaust shop, and found they were almost an interference fit with exhaust tube.
[external dimensions are identical on both- only the I.D. is different]
They gave me some offcuts to mess about with, gave the tube a couple of little dimples with a centrepunch and it became a nice tight fit.

A year back, my mate & I had to do a job in Tarcoola. We doubled the town population on arrival. Not a real fun place.

On the way, we passed a heap of dry lakes.......
