So Gizmo,
Did you turn about so you didn't actually see them drown??? Hmm. Interesting turn of Fraze[}:)]

Ron

Ron you obviously didn't absorb the story last time i posted it.... So here it is again..

While the thoughts are there on the subject of safety ...."Seatbelts".
Many years ago I saw a very nasty situation with a 2 seater yacht at Goolwa beach.
The yacht was a "Freeflight Manta" sailing along the beach with 2 people with a basic knowledge of landyachting .. and doing the right thing of wearing helmets and seatbelts.
The yacht flipped over just below the point the the water was coming up to,
Now the buckles of the seatbelts were between the 2 people so when the yacht was on the side the top person was suspended by the belt forcing their body weight down blocking the release of either of the buckles.
It was all a bit of a laugh for a while with others helping...it got VERY serious when a wave rolled in over the yacht trapping the bottom person under water for what must have seemed an eternity for them.
The lesson learnt VERY rapidly was make sure you can release the buckle by yourself while being suspended by that belt......
If they hadn't been sailing with many other people around I'm sure it would have been fatal.
I have seen some idiots that use sailing snap hooks or a climbing carabiner as the buckle.
If a yacht is on its side you will need 3 people to lift a 80-90kg person to release a jambed buckle...

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS..... IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE

he needs a set of chooks ankle straps,

he almost tore his leg off!
when he tipped he automatically stuck his leg out- and it was pulled under the yacht!

I saw a Plume Kart in the flesh on Saturday. It was a seriously nice bit of kit, beautifully made with a great looking rig. There was almost no wind and the Plume was the only thing moving on the beach.

The whole thing looked like a real step forward from the Blokarts that were gathered around it. Makes me wonder when it may be time for Blokart to come up with something new - there must be many keen karters wanting to move on to something a bit faster/bigger/newer etc.?

I wouldn't think that Blokart will branch out in other models, they have a proven and successful yacht that certainly has changed the sport for the better. They wouldn't produce something that competes with their own product. When people move up the speed tree they tend to move to Class5 or variations of it.

thinking much the same chris. it will be interesting in the next few years to see how the mix develops. It is fascinating to see how the minis seem to be the extra yacht for the fisly camp, and the be all and end all for the blokart camp

yes that was a silly thing to do. is the yacht a fed 5 or an OTT chassis, as its rather hard to take your feet out in an OTT

On the seating subject.. That is partly why the seat in Occum's Razor is shaped a bit like a Chinese Soup Spoon. The Scoop shape tends to hold ones butt in place.. I also was caught by the Seat Belt Conundrum. The wind tipped OR on its side and left me hanging there almost helpless, luckily I managed to get enough lift with my toes to take the pressure off the Seat Belt to release myself (Tribulations of a lone Pilot) Now the Razor has a Porsche type Flap style Seat Belt.

Ron

Ron,
This seat belt buckle is the simplest I have seen. It is the earlier blokart buckle and because of it's simplicity I believe it out classes any brand name buckle be it Porche, Mercedes or even the current blokart buckle.

Even my arthritic fingers can get it undone by lifting the flap even when it is under tension from my ample beer gut.

presumably they stopped doing them for a good reason,Maybe they came apart when not up tightly?

It was at the Blokart / Mini yacht regatta last weekend in Kent, UK. Sadly there was no racing because of a severe lack of breeze. I think it was 'Mr. Plume' himself that had brought it over and it was generating quite a bit of interest.
