Well I guess someone had to do it!
There is a lot of available Rail from Burnie to Smithton..
Do we have a contender to offer a challenge??
Ron
Love it!!
I'd like to try that with a trapeze set up!! perhaps bolt some wheels to a skiff or a cat.
At least side slip isn't a problem....
Doing a google search for "sail on rails" show up an amazing amount of stuff, i suppose its a case of using of what is around and having a bit of fun.

Some video on how you turn around and sail the opposite direction please.
Thought was more like, "OK Got to get back to the car now" or 'Yikes, there is no train scheduled for this track!"
A vertical mast tube with windsurfer sail and dual strops (port/strb) to secure mainsheet and allow it to rotate either direction around the mast.
The mast tube..... on the LLmini instructs, did I miss the degree of rake to put tube?
Something a little out of context but a word here has triggered this Pearl of Wisdom.
It was mentioned in a Post about the Mast Turning in the Step, though this is only a minimal thing (At least in my experience) one can improve the situation by applying a piece of 3/8" thick Rubber Matting into the bottom of the Mast Step it should be a tight fit. This will offer up extra resistance and any movement will be cushioned by the Rubber mat.. Just a thought, Don't shoot the messenger..

i made some enquires on behalf of The demusyeres form Belgium, who wanted to use the railline on the Nullabor to break the sail on rail speed record(yes there is a record).
despite the formality of my request I didnt get a reply

It's interesting. I am also looking for information on the speed record on rails.
Cristian Nau in Francia reached 71 km / h.
Do not answer my messages.
I don't think there is much "new" in landsailing today, but we are getting better at it.
I am sure this pic has been posted before but worth a rerun.
WHADDAREYOU??? Bleedin' Crazy????? You shouldn't go Playing Chicken with Deisel Engines with a load on.. They tend to be very HARD and Unforgiving!! I thought you were using an abandoned section of line?? Isn't there a Law against that sort of thing in Argentina?? CRAZY!!

Very clever setup there in the last clip. Just glides along nicely.
Ron jeez. How fast would you go if the rails were covered in rust.
No different than the young blokes here skateboarding down the road with 52 mtr long road trains loaded with grain going past. You wonder why they do it.
But as for the rails, now I've seen it, I'd certainly give it a go, if a suitable area wasn't so close by for landsailing.
or you could wait until the train passes and then follow it
they do up to 110kph across the nullabor
Great looking rig. All it needs is a long bungee cord with a grappling hook at the end, a good arm, and a current life insurance policy to have a really exciting ride
Lol... I had a horrible feeling the sound of that truck going past as 1:27 was a train coming up behind the camera!
