after months of disapointment here in kal, a strong, bitterly cold wind combined with a sunday and some dry lakes, so we finally got out . 3 minis and a 5 managed a ripper day on "the claypan". Ive been waiting months to trial some mods to my 5 final GPS results for the day was 78.7kph in a 30kph gust. It doesnt sound fast but the lake is only 500m long and 300 wide.
all the mini sailors forgot thier GPS,or sheetropes , or mast cranes, except for 1 newcomer who now understands why we like to play with our GPS's things are feeling much better now for September

That's astounding, well done!

42 knots in 16 knots of wind is a fantastic effort, not to be sneezed at. Nice work

they are both ugly ducklings still hate the wheel barrow wheels dam hard to make a seat that looks right. Changed the mast step, cut half of it out. May never get to sail the dam thing still to many refinements to do to aus230 before I get the best out of it.

cheers

no suprises this year vic, But I have sold off most of my minis, so we should have a bit of a fleet to race with
Might have the "Green Arrow " finished , but it will look unfinished, Ive only got one new sail, a bigger version of mirandas sail from Jan.
im still coming to grips with making sails that are taller than the mast
bl**dy wind is howling from the west again today, cant even get out the shed due to sick kids

you could either move the shed stuff into the lounge room- or the kids into the shed

Ya got it wrong, the shed is to get away from all that. An oasis of gestating ideas.

Vic I just looked at the front of that seat, and realized it was really a Dalek in disguise
the green arrow is the secret code name for the new mini. looked good dressed in cable ties, But Im starting to worry

that looks rather sweet , are you going to varnish it that would look smicko
that front end is borderline" waterpump pulley", so be careful[}:)]

Not real happy with the front end either, Will probably change the design later in the year.
Nope it will end up black that's was the colour of all my speedway bikes and cars, to late to change now

Are you going to use cable steering for this one?

Yes I will be sticking with cable steering, I am not sure what the advantage is between different methods, maybe someone who has tried different types can comment

bit surprised with the weight of ugly, came in at 37kg without mast and sail. so not to bad for a plywood body.
