Recently finished another larger sail for the mini for those lighter days and heavier pilots also have been using the yacht on grass a bit lately
This sail is another windsurf sail Neil Pride with lots of dacron and was in very good condition I did this one differently by adding area at the top instead of the bottom to give more area higher up
I made some batten cups at the luff by moulding Imm
plastic with a heat gun and rivetting them on This turned out to be easier and quicker than shaping them out of thicker matierial as I did last time
The shape in the sail looks good to me and I didnt have to reshape the luff as I
did on my other attempt Yet to try it out--- waiting for suitable conditions
Not sure how it will handle
Cheers Hiko

Yes you are right there He usually blows away to a little dot in front of me on the beach anyway
I have more ballast, relaxed muscle I like to call it to hold it down
It will be interesting trying it out I can always cut it down if it proves too much
One opinion so far is it will be great in 5 knots and in 10 it will be laying on the beach !

Hi Brett
The sail in the pic above is on the large side and works well for me in lighter
wind as I am around 95kg and I sail on sand or grass
It is 1550mm on the foot and 4100mm on the luff
Not sure of the area but would be 5sqM or possibly slightly more
I have another sail made from a windsurfer sail that is 4.4sqM 1500mm on the foot that I use in stronger wind [2nd down on the right in my profile pics]
I hope to finish shortly another sail of similar size also made from a windsurfer sail
that is in better condition and shape I will put up pics when done

G'day hiko, could you do us a favour and do a sail measurement using the the fisly system http://www.fisly.org/rules/isarr/isarr-a03.pdf.
this is what I use for all my sails,.
TP1 and I have tried some older measuring systems and some fancy laser stuff , but the fisly system is actually rather accurate. It would be good to start to be able to compare what size and shape sails work best on different surfaces and bodyweights for the lefroy minis.
the system only seems fiddly the first time, after that you whizz through the next few sails

Here is the sail that I have just finished I will work out the area of this and the other one soon
ps
Just measured it up I see fisly excludes the mast pocket in the measurements
I think ? windsurfer sails are measured including the pocket?
This sail excluding the pocket measures 4.29 sqM after cutting down
and the Neil pride sail further up the thread measures 4.66 sqM excluding the pocket

the fisly diagram shows a wing mast and a boom, for class 2/3.
when measuring your pocketed sail you lay it flat and measure the sail (pocket included)
that last sail you put up looks like it needs more mast bend to suit you luff? i seem to get that problem a bit too. head looks good

Yes something not quite right there
Strange as the mast and luff curve is I think the same as the sail further up the thread
I will leave it for now and try it out
Good you cleared that up about the mast pocket measurement I was getting confused over that one

This sail seems to be more sensitive to rear sheeting position on the boom
By moving the position forward 50MM the sail looks much better in the luff area
an extension at the rear of the seat would probably work too I think
