What is the dumbest and most stupid thing you've done or brought for your boat?

This is one of two secondhand batteries I brought on gumtree, big 200 amps. Nearly killed me getting them on the boat, but cheap at $50 each if they were any good!
Yes my two 6volters died and I'm to cheap to buy $500 worth of batts for a boat I'm about to sell at a give away price soon.
Well the story was good, change over batteries from Thesses as they went with a different type so all 60 of them had to go.
They worked at first but I thought they were a bit hungry sucking up the power and not reaching full charge after two days.
Well I woke up to flat batts this morning after a lot of charging yesterday, I kicked myself in not checking for a power leak before giving up on the old ones. And flattening these ones which is not good for them, but a $100 for fresher batts is good value and I'm sure they will recharge.
so genny on for two hours and 70amps later no charge in them!
Had to move boat so main engine can have a go too, nope nothing! Ahhhhhh........
Gees I'm still not sure why! Iv lived with batts half my life and had some good runs with them, so I'm stumped.
Stuck my multi meter everywhere looking for a leak and nothing positive 'pun intended'.
Dam it I'm buying new ones tomorrow.

I can't believe that someone would sell old used batteries. Even worse I can't believe that there is someone out there that bought them.

I've pushed a plywood bulkhead in too far and it created a hug lump in my deck.
What a dumb f@ck........

I've left my mast on my jetty and a king tide submerged it a few times......

I've installed totally new ply in new deck after water damage......and woke up during the night with rain pi$$ing into holes in new deck. No rain forecast...it just came out of nowhere......

It's called "a learning curve" ...and I must be an airhead sometimes.

I bought a dinghy and outboard on ebay to use as a tender. well the motor was stuffed and the transom was rotten and filled with window putty, The guy was so nice we met at a local shopping centre halfway between our houses. $600 down the drain.

Haha, it's all good fun because a bad day on the water free is better than anything else I can think of.

Ouch, sctpc that hurts for I did something similar!
I Brought a water pump on eBay and raced down to put $500 into his acc. To have this piece of Chinese crap that didn't work turn up!
I could of been upset but I knew that will only make me bitter and become a troll like loosechange and bully others to help me feel better about how much of a looser I was.
So I laughed it off and brought a new pump and nick named it 'stan' after him and smile knowing I'm glad I'm on my side of the fence and not his !.....

I think that ebay has been a learning curve for all of us at one time .... I'm sure I did something I now regret ... I just wish I could remember what it was.

My knees are old and bony and hurt like hell and I'm pretty sure that God don't give a damn.

try to beat that! Dropped my first stink boat in the water then reallised that I had left the contact key at home raced back to get it after asking the "miss used" to look after the boat, came back 30 min to find that the boat had sunk (still visible as it was only 1.5 m deep) as some stupid bastard (me) had not put the bungs in and she could not wait there and went for a coffee with her girl friend! Insurances are a good thing to have !

Ah well felix, we all know that more hurry means less speed.

We all also know that the "Battle of Hastings" or some other battle was won or lost, depending on which side you were on, because of a "nail".

The nail was lost and for want of a nail the horse's shoe was lost and for want of a shoe the horse was lost and for want of a horse the King was lost and shouting "A horse, a horse. My kingdom for a horse!!". So the other king rode up with a spare horse and said "Here is a horse and I thank you for your kingdom!!"

Those that pay attention to detail are often accused of being pedantic, but there is no substitute for it.

My tinnie's bung is fitted from the inside and never gets lost.
