The cat or the owner???
Awesome boat, I used to blue water race on the same cat.
Wasn't worth doing the course racing because the handy cap was so high.
16 knots up wind, hull flying, amazing sight to see an 11m boat doing this!
Just take it easy when bearing away down wind, she will nose dive
what was her past name(s)
Its an 11m Grainger design that was launched in 98-99, sailed and raced for 2-3yrs then for whatever reason she sat on a mooring for 5-6yrs then she was pulled out of the water for a few minor repairs and then 5-6 years later after getting covered in a lot of mould and industrial fallout i turn up and make an offer.
The rig is included (18m) and there is minimal work to get her sailing again.
The intended use is just have fun! but i'll probably get the race bug.
Her name is Asempa but i will change that.
Thanks for the tip Torch .... 16knots upwind? ------ Cool
Why do these kind of deals never happen where I live? I think I must be living in some kind of maritime vacuum.
I went looking for a racing cat for several months and put the word out and this is what the grapevine came up with. I fell in love straight away.
Loose change I looked pretty hard before it fell into my hands so if youre after a bargain get out there and look there is some good buys in the syd- Melb region.
Katie Jay you only live down the road so come for a sail with Cary when you get back from Gladstone
Fantastic find Hangtime, you will need to find some labour to help you get her back in the water and sailing. I imagine it will be of the female variety based on previous post (pictures included)......???
Yep Hangtime, I understand completely about getting out there and looking and putting out feelers. A couple of years ago I was about to buy a Tennant Tourismo but the cost of getting it back here was just prohibitive, so that one had to unfortunately fall by the wayside. Now that old age and a lack of athleticism is creeping up on me I feel the time has come to look at mono slugs rather than racy go-fast multis. Damn shame that
Use to sail on a TT 720 on roids , had a 18 ft skiff rig , was the fastest multihull of that size back in the day till the 075 grainger tri's turned up.
I love these 30-40 ft grainger cats ,that one looks about the same size as Flat Chat, very quick boats .
Good buy
Right place .....right time
YOU LUCKY BASTARD........
Dust it off and get it back in the water where it belongs.
Jay.
Yeah Jay im waiting for my investment fund to release the funds and im chomping at the bit to get the water blaster onto it and some antifouling then go for a sail. Im so looking forward to the learning curve of sailing FAST but in control.
If anyone out there can give me any tips on sailing this kind of beast it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks Wazza.
$5k sounds a bargain for all 3, I'd be interested to see how they turn out for you.
I am in the market for a furling headsail and larger MPS for my cat as well, similar size to you.
keep us posted.
