I am currently sailing in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. I am doing the complete circumnavigation. For the last year I have kept a website, blog and video diary of my efforts to actually get to the start of the race which included a 1000km solo push bike ride from Sydney to Mooloolaba. The Sunshine Coast Daily did an excellent job of covering my efforts as well as ABC radio, Channel 7 local News and I am now being mentioned in articles by sailing magazines and of course the Clipper Race News.

I want to develop my profile - Because of my age and my story I feel that I will be able to connect to young people, particularly young woman and possibly reach a group of people not usually involved or interested in sailing.

I also want to use this high profile platform and capitalise on my role as education embassador to raise funds and awareness of Oceanwatch International, a not for profit group who works with sailors, divers and scientists to help coastal and island communities develop sustainable lifestyles and primary education.

I need a manager to develop my profile using social media exposure, organise guest speaker and presentation opportunities etc etc, and.... find me a major sponsor. I have a few events organised but they need to be managed and I am basically out of contact between ports now so it is becoming almost impossible.

There is 18 to 24 months of marketing opportunities to tap into and I am more than willing to share the profits. I have got something pretty much set up in Geraldton when the fleet stops over however there is huge opportunites in New Zealand and of course the Gold Coast as well as other ports along the way which included China.

I really don't know who to contact or where to go. I just can't seem to make people see the big picture. I am thinking of something like The Best Job in the World Campaign run by Hamilton Island, it is such a great opportunity to connect to young people about sailing and racing as well as goal setting and following through on your dreams. Meanwhile time is slipping by and this opportunity is in danger of being missed if someone who knows what they are doing does not take the reins soon.

Has anyone got any suggestions or can recommend any companies specialising in Sports Management and Marketing which is not based around football or field sports. I seem to come across tons of adds for uni courses and career information but I can't seem to find anybody actually opporating in this field except for a couple of major players who are more likely to be interested in Clipper itself rather than one tiny little crew member with enormous dreams.

Last years Race

Wonderful endeavour Lisa. have you spoken with Don and Margie McIntyre who sponsored Jessica Watson?

Would be right up their alley I think.

No.......I will try a track down some contact details. I am really looking for someone who could do the tracking down and manage everything including contacting people like Don and Margie. I can't do anything at the moment really appart from crewing and my Mum (who has been managing this as best she can) works 6 days a week and had difficulty contacting people during business hours. I am keen to share the sponsorship funds and any other presentation fees etc. I have one booking for $5000 pretty much confirmed at Geraldton so this would be a good start for someone who wanted to take it on.

Hey Lisa,

I have experience in social media (pretty much just facebook/blog sort of stuff). I can't do any management things that you mentioned however what I could do is get you some social media up and running and updating it with links to your blog updates/posting updates and all that jazz.

I am currently running a page/project called Sail Book (www.facebook.com/sailbook and www.sailbook.tv) so if you want to see what I am on about check it out (site is not up and functional yet though). What I might also be able to do is get you global exposure through Sail Book by posting links to your site/blog updates etc.

If you think any of this could be for you give me a shout at michael@sailbook.tv

Also, good work on the Clipper, i considered doing it myself but am concentrating on studies instead.

As Cisco said, hit up Don and Margie.

PS, if you don't have a website yet, get one! A blogspot site is more than good enough for the time being. It gets your goals and mission out there

Hi Lisa,

I made a post to get your name out there and got a reply from Nicole Scott who is a photographer for Sailing Images.net and she said she will talk to me but I will get her to email you instead. She is at Hamilton Island at the moment for race week but when she gets back she will get onto it. Nicole is getting some massive international exposure as a photographer now so I'm sure you guys could work something good out!

Just fyi, this is what I put up (along with a facebook and website link):

"Lisa is looking for a sponsor in her campaign to compete in the Clipper round the world race. If you can help give her a buzz. There are amazing global exposure opportunities along with a chance to become connected with charities and get involved with helping a great person achieve something amazing for our country. Check out her site and get behind her!"

So if you could give me some contact details (either email them to me or private message them) I will pass them on for you :)

I am still trying to increase my profile and hopefully eventually get a sponsor of some type. I have just uploaded a video covering the first race of the Clipper Round the World Race. I had some problems accessing the internet in Rio so more will follow when we reach Cape Town. In the mean time, check out this video and if you like it please like it for face book, add to blogs, posts and anywhere you can to increase awareness of me and what I am doing. All help will be greatly appreciated.
