After 5 years living and cruising on my lovely yacht the decision is made she's going on the market (hopefully a quick sale at a heavily reduced price) and then back into the market for a 42 to 50 footer.......yippee how exiting! Bring on the washing machine!
I checked them out tonight....I'm really leaning towards a hunter...I'm likening the beam and shallow draft along with the C/C general layout.
Only two 42 C/C on the market in Oz that I can find so far.
But of coarse my options will be open.....even a Beneteau could be possible the make a few C/C versions.
I won't be buying till I shift my current !
Being well kept and up to date, I don't think you will have much trouble selling.
Iv looked around after putting mine on the market and really there are only few good yachts around that are
Ready to go.
As a nipper did you have something traumatic happen with a 'washing machine' ? (if not would you like something 'to happen' ?)
Southace, washing machine is a must. Funny thing is, that was the first thing
I bought for my Swanson. True is, never fitted in, used once and sold for $50.
Now I use rope to tow washing in the net. My excuse is, boat shrink to T / S.
I did once help a girlfriend look at a 42ft hunter and I was blown away by the room inside.
An island bed and small bath in the main cabin was something else, and the lounge area was huge.
It was 20 years old and needed a lot of work to being it up to date with maintenance.
But being a modern boat it didn't suit Sally and she settled on a 38 ft Hans Christian with an amazing teak fit out,
And some very good gear for $128,000.
"As with real estate you should sell and buy in the same market. When you sell, do not wait for the market to go up before you buy"
What a load of rubbish. The second hand yacht market aint going up anytime soon.
Sorry but I think teak is for old boats and perhaps old people.....modern boats should have leather or swade matched with bright light coloured bulkheads and marine carpets with just some feature timbers that's coated with uv clear, anyway that my opinion obviously some like the teak.
I have to agree with modern boats having lack of grab holds....you can see the grab holds I fitted on the above pic when I refitted. They get used so much the paint has worn away!.........but I geuss I will have to comprise now that I'm going to almost double the width of my beam!
has anyone tried something like this....2.2kg Top Load Lemair Washing Machine 20kgs 440mmx700mm fully auto 800 rpm spin...$345, cheaper than a new boat?
I think the machine is an option in the Hunters going by my research so far.... It's a washer and dryer all in one!
Another interesting point is that most Hunter rigs are backstayless and it seem most drive is in the main rather than the headsail something to get used to for me!....I geuss backstayless would be an advantage for access to the diving platform transom!
Sorry Cisco I read it wrong! Understand now! I'm going to move onto land for a bit till I find the right boat for the right price I'm not waiting for the market to change just waiting for right boat to come up due to our collapsing economy ! Haha
Hi southace
I am also upgrading to an new Hanse 575 which will be here in time to be displayed at the Sydney boat show in August after which we will bring it home to Brisbane, hence I have placed my fully loaded 2 year old Catalina 445 on the market. I am not sure how must you are looking to pay, but if you are looking for a boat that is as new that has everything and is over 150K below replacement cost and 50K below basic sail away price, it could be worth a look at.http://www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=15995499&Silo=Stock&Vertical=Boat&Ridx=0&eapi=2
Thanks for that!
Nice looking boat.
I think I have my mind set on a C/C same as my current boat, I find it more convenient for single handling docking, aft cabin, smaller dry cockpit.... And I think I'm a tad short of the price as my budget is $200k firm. But of coarse if you feel a bit overloaded with boats sitting around growing weed I'm happy to negotiate the purchase with you @ $200k cash
P.S if your ever looking for a non alcoholic master 5 skipper for your new toy.....feel free to contact me.
Hi Southace,
Yes centre cockpits are a funny thing you either love or hate them, I am a rear cockpit man, probably from racing . We have several keen buyers for my boat, but it is the old story "They have to sell their current boat first".It does not matter whether you are selling a $10,000.00 or a $1,000,000.00 it's still the same story. There are people in all price ranges wanting to upgrade. It certainly pays to be cashed up when buying a boat as there are a lot of people out there wanting to trade their boats or make some other shady deal. A cashed up buyer is in a lot better position to negotiate a good deal.
PS . I also don't drink any hot drinks or smoke, unfortunately We all have to have some vice and I have been known to have the odd rum and beer or two. I have already got more offers than beds to help bring the new boat back from Sydney so you might be out of luck for that trip.
Lot of people in my local area that own two yachts. Good buy comes along they can't afford to miss. All price ranges and the second boat is hard to sell.
Even after heavily discounting my 1st yacht over Christmas I still only managed to attract 2 prospective buyers both over 70 years old one had 3/4 of the money and the rest in opals that he needed to sell ......and the other well let's just say I didn't even answer his calls again.....
Basically I'm selling the boat for the price of the new rig we fitted a few years back so the hull is thrown in as a bonus! Yet still no real buyers! Maybe it might have to go to give away status! Haha !
Pffff and have not even started advertising 2nd yacht we will see what comes out of the woodwork when that goes on the market!
I'm actually happy with 2 yachts but no way 3!
