Got the tiller mount remade out of 3mm stainless and today got it installed. The old one was cracked and sloppy and I reckoned that when it failed it would be at the worst possible moment

Interesting photographic perspective lol
Your cabin looks just like the s..t fight that is my starboard hull
Remainder of rubbing strip and screws on the port side to be removed tomorrow. Then turn the boat around and start on the starboard hull.
Booked the outboard service...dared to ask price of a ss prop guard...out of my range.
Ordered the antifoul from a contact who sells at wholesale price.

This is for badinfluence but would be equally useful for outboards on inflatables. The photo is of my 3.5 Tohatsu and sits in between the two hulls of the cat. Its right where the bow wave from each hull meets and this causes lots of cavitation. You will notice I have added a larger cav plate to the normal cav plate in Stainless steel, this alone makes a massive difference. The korts nozzle is just glass cloth over plastic, there is a strip of carbon there too but that's just for show! The korts nozzle gives lots more thrust.
One of these would also give some improvement in reducing cavitation.

Yo...Tracey.
If you need help with pipe internal diameters just let me know. I can pick out the closest for ya. Could be PVC swv or blue rhino etc. the plumbing shop will cut it by the meter. It will cost like ten bucks or something.

Hay boatin...you Gunna hit the tiller with epifanes or something? ( just making conversation and admiring the new brackets etc)

The shiny new ss makes the timber tiller look a bit sad so I guess that will get added to "The List"

I'll have a go. I finally finished my new Dorade boxes. One of them exploded in an accidental jybe in January and, embarrassingly, it's taken me til now to get my act together. To be fair, I've had to learn a few things (as a novice handyman and boat owner) along the way.

They're 20 mm jarrah and weight a ton but I don't think they'll be exploding any time soon! I decided to finish them with an oil rather than PU. Once they're on they'll probably be the best things on the boat; I might have to make covers for them!

Gosh, that's nice looking timber DrRog ... but the weight ... the weight. I remember turning some on my lathe and thinking how nicely it works and how well a finish it takes.

Yep, they weigh a ton. I certainly won't be fitting out the interior with it!

Hi Ramona
thanks so much for the image....it helps me get my head around what to do. Pretty sure I will go this way and not with the hydrofoil...been doing a bit of reading and the dynamics seem to make more sense with the Kort's than the foil. Talked to the Propguard people yesterday...very helpful. Was hoping to see my engineer mate yesterday to further discuss it, but wasn't to be.

@brizzydave....thanks for your offer. I'll pm you and sort something.

@drrog....as Howard Carter said upon opening Tutankhamen's tomb..."I see wonderful things". Those dorade boxes truly are very pretty. Exactly what oil did you use? Looking shamefully at my grab rails .

For today...quick washdown of where the rubbing strip came off before I head out (on someone else's boat) for the SAGS.

Love your work boatin. Thanks for opening the floodgates. Whilist retrieving the lost main halyard from the mast head last week...I discovered I had used the same rope to tie the ladder legs off for safety. What a dumb ass. So today I totally let my milky nice lovely runny toplac go a bit too creamy in the heat and buggered up a paint job. I can sand it cause it's a first coat...lesson learnt. I am missing a few stanchion bases that I put "in a spot so I could find them later on easily"....now they are gone forever....and they are circa 1970 and not made anymore.....grrrrr... I have sanded a bit too much off my new laid up polyester deck in some parts " to get it nice n flat" ?.....and its back to "wobbly"...grrrr!!!.......ive left gaping holes open all night after new deck core has gone in.......and a two oclock in the morning thunderstorm has rolled through ( screw you god!!!)......could go on for a few more paragraphs. It's a learning curve I guess. ( please stop drinking rum the night before boat work David) So yep boating...I know your pain mate. Most annoying hey?

Your're just teasing us with those pics southace! Come on, show us more and tell us the story. That looks like one superb restoration that could be an entire thread on its own.

Yes, I remember this image from the before and after series, transforming a dark and dingy hole below decks to something bright and cheerful.

Yes I used 2 part wattle thinned and applied with a roller on the headliner. And just semi gloss on the rest.

Interesting and inormative forum. Always very supportive in the exchange of ideas of experienced sailors.
Hopefully the following link to the projects page of the website I have set up or my boat will give new owners some idea of what is involved in owning a sailboat.
This is not meant to deter anyone, it should be taken as encouragement that messing about in boats is fun both on and off the water.

pekeri.com/cgi-sys/suspendedpage.cgi?page_id=186

This is still work in progress, and I will continually add images of the projects as time permits.

Happy sailing/boating/messing about.

@BadInfluence. Thanks man. I just went to my local and bought Feast Watson's Wood Shield Oil, natural. "A water repellent blend of oils and waxes for exterior timber protection". I think it's this one but had a different picture on the front: www.feastwatson.com.au/consumer/products/exterior/product-details/1558

Of course it is as yet completely untested and I wouldn't take my advice on anything paint / oil related. I figured if using an oil didn't work for me I could always go to a varnish or PU but not the other way around.

Spent all day working on the Yanmar 8. Put a helicoil in the fuel filter as the fitting was leaking. Later found the fuel line from the filter to the injector had worn badly where it passed under the motor and where the bracket held it. Today will get a new hose made and hope that this fixes the air in the system.

Spent a few hours on electrics, I added a BMV-600s battery monitor and shunt so I can have a better idea on battery health as we only have the one AGM 105A/h battery with solar panel (not yet fitted, thats the next project ;).
SOC = state of charge
you need to charge the battery with a charger to 100% and then sync periodically

Another frustrating day on the Yanmar 8 ! Installed the new fuel hose, bled everything and still couldn't get it to run. Sometimes it would run for 5-10 seconds and then die.

If it was something I said your holiness, I wholeheartedly apologise and will try to behave in the future !

had the same frustration with my Bukh recently when I had the tank cleaned and replaced all hoses. I then discovered I needed to bleed at filter first, then the injector pump. Bingo, it fired up.

Good day today, I rode my motorbike for the first time since March to the boat I have not been able to get to since Feb. OMG shes still happy but the growth is Disgusting so much so I rowed up to her stern and whent to get on and my dink had that distinct hiss oh s&*^ yep I punctured it the shell fish are like knives, so jump on board pull everything up she looks ok considering she has been alone for over 6 months.
Go inside and my solar panels have done their job, oil ect looks good give the Bukh a wipe with a clean rag to check under the lanox and the impella screw head falls off in the rag, pull in all apart and the thread comes out easy, use a stainless touch the starter Fires strait up.
Now I don't (did not but now will) keep patches for my dink on the boat 150mt from shore and a good breeze and all I can find is Ducktape blow it up as best I can and row like stink fist 20mt its ok then the oar locks start moving more than the oar tips so I start aiming for a rock wall thats exposed at low tide, wind and not wanting to get drenched gets me the 80 mt to it the all I had to do walk 50mt on the slippery rocks to shore pack up and ride home. Good Day, but I will never NOT carry a patch for the dink again.
