Thanks to a tip by Cisco i went and checked out Zoe Bay on Hinchinbrook Islands eastern side, The trades blow 20knots SE most of the time and the thought of anchoring in open roadstead and leaving the boat didnt appeal but when i got there the conditions werent so bad, A little protection from the headland on the southern side of the bay was enough to minimise the wind and chop so we dropped the anchor.
Peace and solitude and Beauty, But wait... Whats that? 4 jetskis?, Out here? Yes there was a group of jetskis that buzzed up from Lucinda and they were preparing for a ride from Townsville to Mackay, They turned out to be nice people and one had just crewed on a large cat in the Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race.
Dragging the Dinghy ashore was a bit scary as it was low tide and there are crocs about, Im Sh@# scared of crocs.
There is a walking trail to a waterfall that has to be the sweetest waterfall and clear pool ive ever been to, It really is a treat and i spent an hour climbing the rockface to get to the top to a spectacular view and to discover a maked trail to get back down which was going to be hard work if i went down the way i went up.
It was sad to see the damage by Cyclone Yasi with the eastern side of the island stripped of vegetation and old trees uprooted and tossed about, But thats nature and recovery doesnt take long.
Not long after leaving a fine Yellowfin Tuna grbbed the lure and supplied a big dinner that was fit for a king.... Battered tuna chunks!
Arriving late in the afternoon at Cardwell i went into the marina thinking that maybe a small part of it was operational a couple of months after Yasi went through but i was wrong I am very humbled by the damage thats still there, Amazing that noone died in this storm!

Very nice, Waz. I can just taste those tuna chunks!

I have to be contented with a late getaway and a quickie overnighter in Bribie Passage amongst its quirky community this weekend.

The little bit of SE that was forecast has been revised to NE so there should not be any dragging of anchor in the middle of the night......OMG, how many times has this happened over the years in this little part of the world. [}:)]

Like I said, "You won't regret it." I am very happy you went there and was able to appreciate it as I and many others before have. Your companion obviously approved.

Sad to hear the plight of Port Hinchinbrook. Is Keith Williams still in the picture there??

Much appreciate your description and photos. One could be forgiven for thinking the scene in your second pic was in French Polynesia.

So now that you know my info is good, I do hope you go to Bowden Island and post description and pics from there.

It is equally as good as Zoe Bay but from a different perspective.

Fair Winds and Following Seas, Cheers Cisco.
