Hello Crusty
I sorry I can't help with a local surveyor. But if I was to buy another boat I would also get a builder (shipwright) to also inspect a boat. My last boat passed survey with flying colours. (that kept the insurance company happy). But 4 months after I brought it, a rust spot appeared on the outside of the hull where the anchor locker was. The photo shows what I had to do. Fortunately I can weld and had somewhere free to store the boat. But the cranes and trucks involved weren't free. Beside the 2 meters at the pointy end, I also replaced another 5 sections of the hull. Fibreglass and wooden boats can also be full of $urprises. A builder may be able to give you information that you can use to bargain the price down (if you still go ahead with the purchase) so you will recoup his fee and if he finds nothing then you will have peace of mind.

Fortunately my story has a happy ending. I also cut a bow thruster tunnel in while I was at it.

Sh!t Crusoe, sorry to hear of your episode.

I've come to the consclusion a survey is only as good as the person doing it.
Glad to see it turned out in the end, magic paint finish too.

I did find a surveyor, just waiting on the report.
And surveyor was the original designer, plus an experienced shipwright as well.
Nothing like going to the top.

Was that the bloke I messaged you about? Or did you find someone down the coast?

Dr Pete, Mr Schionning himself was able to look over the boat for me., so I was pretty impressed (and suprised actually. Plus there was a bit of travel involved).
Nothing like standing behind your product in a way.

How are you scheduled for deliveries in the next month? I might need a plan B.

A buddy of mine is selling his Schionning and it's anchored down the coast right now. What's the name of the one you're looking at?

it is tecnically unnamed, just NSW rego number.
Apart from being a Wilderness, biggest identifying feature is no windows fitted, just painted blackouts.
Same boat?

Nah. His is moored up in the Broadwater now. It's a 40ft Schionning but it's definitely QLD registered and named. He sailed it up to Musgrave with me in mine last year. We had the best week ever, just moored up in the lagoon diving and spearing (just a couple of trout for a feed. My first time with a spear gun and it's a lot harder than it looks). It's a great boat. He's only selling her to buy a bigger one :)
