Can anyone tell me what size fins come with a new psh 9'11''? Or do you get both quad and thruster fin set ups?. I've just bought a new board and i'm not sure i've received the correct fins.
Is it worth while spending the extra dollars getting the schmico set?
Cheers.
I bought a psh 10'6" at the weekend and got a 7.5' centre fin (choice of either this or a 6.5") and two side fins. Was told I could by the other two if I want a looser faster feel in the surf. Hope this helps.
Guys the most popular Quad upgrades for the PSH rippers, are-
FUTURE FINS THE STAMP HC QUAD FIN SET
Along with the Simon Anderson Quad set - rears are available separately so you don't need a full set.
SHAPERS QUAD-E - Futures box
SHAPERS QUAD -X - Futures box
Cheers AA
I have tried a few different combos and find the controller rears matched with some standard fronts (like AM2 or similar) the best on the smaller rippers like the 86R and the sets like AA has shown below work well on 811R or probally the longer models.
Scottt, try some differentt fronts i you can, borrow some with the controller rears.
Don't want to hijack the thread but it is sort of on topic. I have a PSH 9' WAA and are having major problems with the quad fin setup. I have lost 2 rear fins on the same side in the last month or so. A PSH & a Gerry Lopez.(Futures) Each time I have checked manually for tightness. After losing the last one I did some investigating and found that the grub screw is on the wrong angle and the fin box is slightly longer than the fins. When I fit the fin it is tight but during the session it gradually works its way back & because the screw is on the wrong angle it lets go.
I cannot find anywhere that I can get one single replacement fin for these sets. This is peeing me off (very expensive) as I thought one of the reasons for removeable fins was if you hit something it would come out & not damage the board. Then you could replace it.
Has anybody else experienced losing Future fins like this & if so any solution?
Also anybody know where you can get one fin from a quad set? Although I can't replace them till I solve the above problem.
Long winded..... I know sorry!
Often future fins fall out as a result of a cheaper box being used
If it doesnt say usa in the box its not a legit future box.
Many sup and surf brands use these.
Could be the problem.
Abit of wax on ur fin base can help too..
Cheers
I had a loose fin as well on my PSH 9'2" from the start. Tried longer but the problem was the hole was to big and the grub screw would not grab. Had to go to a specialist fastening warehouse and got a bigger guage screw and drill out and re-tap. Now I have to carry a larger ellen key for this fin.
It is annoying we have to do these things considering the prices we pay
I think I've solved this problem now. My local board manufacturer had a look at it for me and after slightly sanding the bottom of the fins and cleaning out the bottom of the box discovered a bead of resin on the side of the offending box.We cleaned this out and now the fin settles further down and allows the grub screw to grab.So the problem was quality control at PSH. I had emailed them before we discovered this asking for any advice and never got an answer. Being a bit of a PSH fan boy I'm pretty disappointed by this. Big Thank You to Peter Mahaffey Surfboards. Thanks Pete.
