Hi, Anyone surf either or both of these boards? I would be interested to hear your comments.
I have surfed the 9'2" surf and found it a bit too small, just hard work for me.
I am 88kg.
Thanks,
Ken.

I am also 88 kg and have a few years experience. I am also tall so stability is an issue.

I was looking for a shorter board for surfing and tried both these boards as well as the 9'2 Allwave. Didn't like the Allwave much at all, although stability was not the issue.

In the end I got the 9'6 Surf. I really liked the Fusion as well but the Surf is just as stable (if not more so) - I am super comfortable on it even on windy choppy days. The Surf also seemed to be a bit more lively and turn just that bit sweeter (more rocker?).

Couldn't be happier.

G'day Ken
I (90kg) paddle the 9'6" JP Surf and the 10'2" JP Fusion. My son (72kg) has the 9' 8" Fusion.
We have been on the JPs since December
This morning we put all three on the water with my brother (80kg) being the 3rd paddler in 2 ft glass and swapped boards continually for a couple of hours.
While the 2 boards you are looking at are very similar ie almost same length and volume and both 31" wide they are very different boards. Our joint opinion for what it's worth

* These are both great boards. My brother has also ordered the Fusion
* The Fusion surfs great, tracks better so a little easier to catch waves and despite the similar dimensions is a fair bit more stable.
* The surf as Marvin says feels lively under your feet. This board is the best surf SUP I have had

In short, if you want a great surf SUP go with the Surf model but if stability is an issue at all, particularly when it's a bit choppy or windy then go the Fusion. The tracking ability of the Fusion also helps out when getting up the beach away from the crowds or the surf is a bit fullish.

Either way you'll have a great SUP with the 2 JP models you are looking at, just depends what conditions you generally get out in

Look into the Surf Wide Body by JP, Stable, tracks and performs! Super board design.

As for 10kgs more than 88, I reckon if you were shortish and athletic/of good balance then it could be reasonable.

Thanks to everyone for there reviews in this topic, it's appropriate for me as I'll be upgrading to either the allwave 9'6 or JP fusion 9'8/surf 9'6 next week.
Still undecided!!

Happy days

ive got the 9.6 surf in carbon, and ive got cabrihna 9.8 which i think is the new jp 9.8 fusion. Also have the allwave 9.6.
For what its worth, the 9.8 is much more stable than the 9.6. im 20 kg heavier than you so both boards will have no problem floating you, the 9.8 is a magic all rounder, paddles nicely and surfs great. The 9.6 is about as good a surf sup as you can get at that length, but its narrower in the tail and nose, has more rocker, and at my weight is a lot harder to stay upright on that the 9.8. At 88 kg you should be ok on it, but dont be fooled by its width, its probably one of the tippiest board for its length ive surfed. as a comparison my 9 foot lopez and 8.10 starboard wide point are both way more stable, but arent a patch on the 9.6 jp when it comes to surfing performance. If youre looking at thee boards and you weigh 88kg, then the 9.6 allwave is way too big for you. seriously i hopped off the jp back onto the allwave the other week because i got sick of falling off in the onshore, and it was like hopping onto an aircraft carrier. I love the allwave but in comparison, its like an old longboard compared to the jp super short board like performance. at your weight the 9.2 or 8.10 are probably better bets and both are more stable than the jp 9.6. If youre after cutting edge performance with no compromises the 9.6 surf is awesome, if you want to exert a bit less effort, a fair whack more stability and still excellent surfability the 9.8 is fantastic. If you want a super fun longboard style board thats great in mush and super stable then the allwaves are the go.

Hi Sameh,
You said,"at your weight the 9.2 or 8.10 are probably better bets and both are more stable than the jp 9.6."

Are you sure the 9.2 surf is more stable than the 9.6?

I have demo'd the 9.2, found it too much hard work and thought the 9.6 would offer a little more stability, which would make it a bit easier for me.

What do you think?

Ken.

sorry for the confusion, i meant the 9.2 and 8.10 allwave would be more stable. I wouldnt even try hopping on the 9.2 jp surf at 106 kg, i struggle enough with the 9.6. The 9.6 is certainly rideable at 88 kg, its just going to require a steeper learning curve and mean a bit more falling off in the choppy stuff. It will pay you back in spades though if you're after one of the best surfing 9.6 boards on the market.

Hi Guys,

I am surfing the 8 8 wide body JP board as find it plenty stable for me! In all manner of wind chop. It is great on waves and does not show any signs of that vibration some epoxy boards get as you hit variations on the wave face.

Even the 8 2 was super stable back front and side side.

If you can give it a fly!

Ken ended up getting the 9'6 allwave and love it, it's a lot of board but still loose enough for me too put some nice turns in

Thanks for that, I should be able to demo the 9'2" allwave, see how that goes?

Hi Guys,
Just bought a near new second hand Fusion 9'8" in the matt finnish, (blue and yellow).
Haven't ridden it yet but it was too good a price to resist so I took a chance, largely based on the above recommendations.
Once I have had a few sessions on it I'll do a review in a new thread.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Ken.

Just bout the 9'8" Fusion - same as pictured. I am a beginner (at SUP) but are hoping this will suit me in small waves and river use. I'm 80ks in a wetsuit. Looking forward to hearing reviews about this board. Also what is the deal with the 3 different constructions? (AST ?)

Hard to say if it will suit you as it is a personal thing really. But as far as being suitable to do what you describe with your 80KG, it will be adequate. There are better boards for small waves and flat water. I am finding they like a bit bigger waves, 3ft plus is where they perform best. Hope that helps.
Ken.
