Any suggestions?
Not keen on $900+ boards for a 9 year old (~35kg).
Had a look at 2nd hand, but prices still high.
Trying to get family all out at once :)
Great kid, uses our 9'8-10'2' boards, no problem.
Says she's wanting to surf it, but ?
Mum can't surf, but giving it a go.
I'll mostly be SUPing on a bay.
Long walk in for surfing where I live.
Have a mini mal and shortboard in garage- anyone modded one for SUP?
Thanks
At 35kg's, you could sniff around for a 9'1 Surftech Tuflite Longboard. You can find them for about $500... in quite good condition.
ECS have a new 7'10 kids soft board coming out, its based off one of my customs and are due in a month.
i have a 8'1 custom for sale too as well as a 7'8 custom which doubles as a kids board as well has a performance surf sup
Here's one of my little blokes on their 8'0" x 30" WalkonWater soft top.
They love it.....so do I for messing around on
I had the same issue with my daughters.
Tried my 9'mal but it didn't have enough volume and was too narrow.
Looked at a couple of (well used) 2nd handers but that didn't excite them.
Finally bought a very nice 9' Fly from Warwick at RPS.
Very happy with it - good size for them, and I can paddle it when they want my Nalu.
I think if you're going to be serious about getting them interested you need to be a bit serious about the board you get for them
I have a 9 foot x 29 McTavish SUP for $600 in as new condition which would be perfect for your needs. Let me know if you are interested. I bought it for my daughter but she is not interested.
hi,
I am 13 years old and got into paddling about a year ago on a starboard 9'0 by 30 and that was about right for me i also learnt to surf on that and now am in to racing in new zealand and also surfing is surf a luke short 7'2x26 which is 70 L and i race on a 2010 starboard new 12'6 by 23 i would recommend now going any bigger then 10 foot for a start and look around the 9 foot range for a cheap board and then if they do get into surfing on them and you think they are going to stick with the sport dont hesitate and buy something smaller trust me its not fun getting dragged around by a 9 foot+ board in the white water anyway good luck and happy paddling.
I am in the same boat... i have my 12'6" sunny king flat water race and want to get something the kids can use..
I am going to get a Red Air 10' for the family for christmas- i can ride it in the surf and the kids can use it and i dont have to worry about them banging it up. Also we can take it camping in the bush for a bit of river work on the rapids.
I am still looking at a cheap (flea bay cheap) softie mal 7' or 8' that i could get them now and if they are into it maybe boards of their own, any thoughts on using a a 7'-8' softie surfboard for a sup for a 5 and 6 yr olds??
I am taking the little bloke (he is 6) tomorrow on mine so will see how he goes.
