Just picked up my new 9' Hokua Naish. I am waiting on dawn to get out and get on it. Would go now but have to act in a school play . I am a teacher at the local school, and by no means an actor (fun though).

I have been riding a 9'6" Hokua for a couple of years mixed in with a number of others. So far the 9'6" has been one of the best alround board I have riden (until dawn at least).

I will post a review tomorrow on how it goes. From the look of it it should be sweet. I'm 95kg (no jokes Alan or PT) so I'm interested in seeing how it goes.

Has anyone else grabbed on yet and how did you find it.

Here are some shot:

I'm still wet from riding it as I type this , just came in. Wazza my mate (another school teacher) just picked one up he's 92 kg I'm 90 it floats low in the water with us on it BUT that's not a bad thing because it helps with stabilty but you have to work on it as it was pretty choppy this arvo , the concave deck is great really helps with balance. I loved the plane shape it looks the goods.

Surf wise it was great easy to find the sweet spot , plenty of speed. We rode it as a 2+1 I think a quad set up will make flow more through the turns (my opinion)

Wazza will post his own review.

BP, 8'2" x 28 3/4" works for me at 92kg so sure it would be fine. Nice looking board.

You could be right, Just want a more easy ride for now,

Im sure the 9 hokua would be harder to get along with vs my 9 mctavish anyway.

BP the 9-0 McTvaish is a great board just do the hard yards on it and stick with it , Jackosn Close rides this board and just rips it up and has the trophies to prove it.

Thanks, I was not looking at buying i was just saying about the litres on the naish 125L and at 90kg pluss wettie it would be hard work, a lot more than the mctavish

Nice board, But not for me

No need for a wet suit here. Maybe a 1mm top for a month or so!

I like the 2+1 for beach breaks but will photo the quad setup for you after a surf.

Thanks for the photos DJ. Excellent job of showing the rails.

I wonder if Robby is a thruster guy? Some guys just don't like quads, so they try to make quads drive like thrusters.

That quad placement favors drive over looseness

I guess I'll have to trust in Robby, and just try it myself and hope the quads work

I love the buzz of getting a new board I'm picking up a new longboard today.

Are the first few photos deceptive or is there really that much rocker in the board.

Have fun

There is plenty of rocker but I think the first shots of mine are overly deceptive. The photo with the TV in the background is a more real perspective.

Thanks DJ for the photos. Saves me changing the fin set up.

The verdict

I am 6' and 95kg

Surfed it this morning in fairly clean waist high surf. Slight northerly wind.

LOVED IT!!!

Don't let anyone say it won't float you. It floated me fine and paddled well. In the first 15 minutes there were a few mermaids trying to ravage me but after finding the sweet spot on the board any wobbles were gone and it was great.

It is fast! It made sections easily. Basically for a guy my size this is a 6' blown out short board. It turns on a dime. Makes late take offs with ease.

Totally suggest you demo this if you are considering steping down from a larger board or if you are after a more performance type board. The concave deck seems to help with stablity.

To top the morning off my 7 year old daughter on her surf board caught her first green wall wave from out the back and surfed along the wave. Made some good little turns and beached it. Proud Dad!

Nice review,

I'm still somewhat scratching my head over the small board with litres that would suit the smaller person, This is what i take from the specs.

But you seem to love it, Awesome its a great looking board and well built
I do however think you need to be very experienced and a dam good paddler to stay upright on this board.

Sure a heavy guy can use it but at 90+ kg i would of thought your on the paddle 100 percent just to keep balanced

Interesting to see how boards are now changing, And rider views on what is right acceptable for a given person weight ability.

I would be interested to hear DJ's review, As a surfer of more the adverage skill but at the high end of the weight scale

surfed the 9'0 with the quad setup this morn in 2 ft clean waves with a bit of current and a few cross waves thrown in. been riding the naish 8'10 and im 82kgs.
i too loved this board, caught waves so easily, heaps of speed, so much so that i could snap this board around more than the 8'10. really stable and loved the concave deck. this board is worlds apart from the 8'10, i feel i can relax more when paddling through the shore break and i didnt fall off at all while turning to catch waves.
picking one up today! yeeeeew!

Second Day on it and loving it more. Ultra clean day with small surf. I thought this board may not go as well in smaller surf especially at 95kg. I was wrong. It went great. Super easy to paddle onto the wave. You can throw this thing around. It is an incredibly reactive board.

BP, you don't need to stay on the paddle. It is fairly stable for its' size and mine. I think the concave deck plays a part here which is a great design idea.

Sounds like a nice board, I think i will stick to the boards with the width near 29.5 to 30 for now and 136 + litres, Latter in the year i might look into the naish Very expensive here at the moment.
