G'day Guys, just looking for some help and advise.
Last Sep-11 i got myself a 9'0"Naish hokua and at first a little frustrated but now i am all over it. Surfing some good sized waves and getting in some good turns. Now on the weekend i SNAPPED it in half surfing 6-8ft at my local. Ahhhhhhhh bugga .
Now i need to get a new board and there are three i am looking at the 8'5" Naish Hokua, 7'8" Naish Hokua and i have been told to check out the 8'9" Paddle Surf Hawaii Hull ripper.
Im in it to surf these things and at all sized days.
So as the CFO (wife) is already pissed at me for snapping my relatively new board. Your help and advise would be very much appreciated.
if your looking at PSH go the standard rippers. the 8"6 is pretty good.
the fanatic 8"6 pro wave is pretty good in bigger waves too.
can't say on the hokua's but 7"8 sounds like a small wave board???
good luck and bugga about your broken board,
you'll have to turn it into a chair.
Hey mate you should fix the snapped one and keep it for a 'rockhopper'. SUPs snap very easily due to their size and lack of stringer so good to have one you don't care about for slab type surf. It looks like a clean break so should be an easy fix for someone if you can't do it.
Re the new board. If you want the absolute best performance get a custom. If you can get the right one there is no comparison in performance despite what anyone on here will say IMO anyway Get it built will a bit more glass and it will still be heaps lighter than most popouts.
The problem with popouts is they are made for the masses so need to have very fat rails and are generally 'toned down' so they are easier to stand on.
cant talk for any of the boards that you are looking at as they are all a tad to small for me, most of the "performance" production boards are pretty good now, just demo all the ones your looking at and see what suits your style, maybe have a look at some customs as the local shapers are making some great boards
just my 2c

Hi Guys, thanks for all the feed back and advice.I am going to take a 8'9" hull Ripper for a test run on the weekend and looking forward to that. Im not sure but getting a custom board could work out to be a bit expensive i think?? And if i get it wrong very expensive!!!
As i need to get it passed the CFO (wife) and have five kids this type of expense will be very hard to justifie . I will keep my eyes open for any demo days comming up.
OHHHH come on Lotto guys please give me a turn of winning!!!
Try the local surf shop at wollongong I'm sure they will throw in a gondolier outfit for free!!
GO THE SHARKIES ATTACK IN TRADITIONAL ATTIRE!!
Man i need to get me one of those outfits. This would firer them up out Sharky!!! I can see a Sharky attack comming up in those outfits real soon [}:)][}:)]
Least it was 6-8 ft when you snapped yours. I snapped mine in 2 ft surf after owning it for 3 weeks. Crap, and I creased my other one for the third time on Saturday, time for a change I think.
Wow Bugga that sucks!!!!!!
I took the 8'9" X 30 PSH hull Ripper for a test run over the weekend and was very suprized. it was so stable and a great paddler. the waves were not great but it did give me a bit of an idea. the shape of the hull nose on this board made it very easy to through it up for a turn off the white wash. it did feel a lot stiffer than my Naish but this could just come down to changing the fins??
great board thou and the stability helped with not having to use up my energy on balancing and paddling. And put all my effort into just surfing.
heaps of fun
