Am looking to get a popout gun, and have pretty much narrowed it down to these two. Has anyone got any experience with them (or even with both of them?). I'm 73kg and 5'11 fyi. The Naish would probably be a 2012 model (some good deals on closeouts), the JL would probably be 2012 or 2013 model (don't know if the Baby Bomb has changed since 2010 anyways).

Mate not that my opinion is worth much , based on construction I would go the JL I'm keen on the son of Bom

suspect many "elderly supsters" would be chubby and find the Naish too tippy.....but you are soooooo light at 75kg
Ive had a BB for 4 months now after riding a 9'9 Mano for 2yrs. I got it mainly for the quad option and wouldn't go past the JL construction.,and havn't looked back. I've noticed the difference in performance straight away just with the thruster set up...and when I ran it as a quad it was even better. In solid double head high surf it held in and flew. I've tried it in 1-2footers too and it is easy to manouvre because it is light.....It has such a good shape it is even faster when lying down paddling out of the impact zones...I am 83kgs and can manage it no worries so you shouldn;t find it hard...I can't wait for next winter to get it into the juicey waves again..good luck....
never really understood the concept of a sup gun? you've got 8-9 foot of board and big chunky rails you shouldn't have trouble paddling into and holding a rail on most waves unless your planning to sup 10ft plus???
suspect the whole point of a sup gun is that it does not have "big chunky rails" :)

yup. been riding a 9'0 for the last few years and have ridden it in 2ft beachies up to windy 8ft impossibles in indo. no probs catching waves or holding rail.
If I was 76kg I wouldn't either. But at 95kg, in the big moving water and playing field size of the 10'+ realm,
I find a 10-5 just fine. It's all to scale. On a big wave face it's not so big. And the takeoffs are key to successful

think sup guns are designed for something bigger than that. Indo waves do not have much push.

Having had both...
Pros
Naish -- surfs excellent in quality waves, narrower in the tail than the JL and will hold a solid bottom turn edge and ride high and deep in the barrel. Smooth turns off the tail and actually fairly loose for a gun. magic board for better (big, clean hollow) Hawaiian winter surf. The only SUP I've made deep stand-up barrels on.
JL -- Surfs well, stable (wide), easier to paddle and catch waves than the Naish, especially if the conditions are chunky and heavy. Overall a bit more of an all-around, easy feel for a gun. Nice, solid, secure feel taking big drops. Bombproof construction and excellent deck pad.
Cons
Naish -- narrow and tippy makes balance a bit difficult in rough conditions (I weigh about 185 lbs/85kg). construction could be better and the stock deck grip is average at best. high price tag.
JL -- The only real weakness is going to be relative to performance in hollow surf compared to the Naish; while better than most, it's not going to hold as well off the bottom or high and tight. IMO, this is mainly the result of width (the JL is a good 1.5" wider). Generally, the Naish is going to feel smaller and looser.
Both of these are great boards for overhead, quality surf, just a bit different. I wish I could get the JL construction on the Naish shape.

I used to think that too and thought I did pretty well holding a rail and pulling in and surviving.... until a few years I got on a gun and figured out that much more was possible..... a narrower outline and especially a rounded pin makes all the difference in heavy surf
I ended up with the JL Baby Bomb. Really love this board, especially when the conditions are rough and I wouldn't be able to stand on anything else. Was surprised that a board this large could actually turn and be fun to ride - and definitely could see how that Naish would have even better performance. For me, though, I think it was better to go with more stability; already have plenty of tippy little boards, and it's nice to have something dead-bang easy to stand on.
