ordered a 2014 starbie 9.5 widepoint and their ad said it comes as a quad fin. Well it turned up as a thruster. Can anyone tell me if they have ridden both the 9.5 and the 8.3 in the wide points? Are there huge differences?
The widepoints are thrusters see catalogue

I have a wide point 8.10 wood and it has thruster and quad fin, fin box set up. Thruster fins deliverd though.
It says FIN BOXES (Extra fins not provided). All boards come with thruster set up and it's up to you to get quad fins.
Sometimes it is better to just get in touch with the shop if there's a problem and not post on a forum?
ok....seems I got off on the wrong foot. Aus301 thanks for posting the ad on to check, but correct me if Im wrong, it says, Quote "comes standard with quad and thruster fin boxes. Im not talking about the amount of fins. It has three. See I demoed a 2012 stabie 9.5 wide point and it came with both sets of fin boxes, quad and thruster so you have the option to ride with either. I heard there was a new 9.5 coming out for the 2014 models so I ordered a carbon model, and as I explained the ad said - comes standard with quad and thruster fin boxes. I think the starboards are well built and having only started riding in the surf, im stoked with it and how it feels, light etc. So I said I was disappointed not devoed to find that the new one only came with thruster fin boxes. Oh well...........Hey Dj you seem to be a wealth of info. I also got a 14' glide for downwinders but for where I live you have to punch out thro surf to get started. Do you always wear a leggie? See I got nailed a couple of times trying to paddle out and had to swim for the board and thought I didn't really want to be connected to 14 feet of carbon getting dragged around. And also is it possible once your through the surf and heading down wind and in the rare event I fall..ha...that in strong wind and swell the board could get away from you. Any ways, appreciate any comments and really enjoying the sport whether it be in the surf or charging down wind.
Going by what that Starboard ad says I'd be expecting boxes to give you the quad option and I'd be disappointed to find that it doesn't.. It seems there are a lot of errors coming out of the Cobra factory these days and I expect this is one of them.. and yes.. I always wear a leggie with my 14' Glide.. unless it's very calm and glassy.. .. Congrats on the 14' Glide..

Mate, as far as I know you are right, they should come with boxes to allow for a thruster or quad option.
I thought you were talking about fins, which the board only ships with the thruster set. The Starby fins that come with the board are actually pretty reasonable, not plastic rubbish like some other brands... but that's a different topic.
On your issue, I would be straight back to the shop to get some answers.
Ahhh - I now see your problem - not the number of fins but the actual fin boxes. Mate I would be fizzing if you were promised both quad and thruster fin box options and it only came with three. Can see why you posted now!! However, if the ad states that you should have both then you should be totally okay to take it back for a refund unless you've surfed it.
Why red the crap out of the bloke for asking a question,he was not bagging anyone just asking advice on sup forum re a board he bought and it would appear did not get what was advertised. I think fair to ask advice from others who may have had that board before he takes it further. Typical people jump in to bag someone first, maybe take the time to offer advice or help the bloke out.
Is this Australia or what?
Love my 8'10 Wide Point Carbon. I run it as a quad all the time and it is absolutely unreal in the surf.
Unfortunately the ad say"AST Electric Blue features an extra set of Surf Finz boxes". The board shape is really not suited for a quad and most of the boards in that series are tri-fins. Only the boards that actually show four fins in the description are quads.
Good point, your right. Thought u were complaining that the board only comes with a set of thruster fins. If it has no quad boxes, you have a point to complain. Suggest you do that with your retailer and return the board as new before you use it. Once taken out in that water, I suggest that you have accepted it as it came.
Hey let us all know the outcome and answer you get back from Starboard.
I had the 2013 WP 9'5" and ran it on quads the whole year, definitely losened the board up nicely
Got a 8'10" arriving this week so the first thing I will be checking is has it got 5 fin box's or 3, I really hope 5
Phil
Same as last years shape, with the added things like the new centre handle and new graphics, I have the 8'10" WP in carbon and it DOES have Four FCS fin boxes (for Quad) and one centre Fin box as like last years. And comes with a set of thruster fins for initial set up as advertised. IMO If you are going to run it as a Quad put 4.7s on the front and 4.5s on the rear, as I found that the best setup for all round big and small waves. Happy shopping..
Hi I got my 2014 9 5 widepoint a few weeks back mine has 5 boxes what volume is written on your board mine has 155 litres not 153 re the brochure
Wonder if I got old stock with new graphic or just a typo error. I'm not experienced enough to know the difference between the old and new shape
