the 9'1' pro sits low in the water with82 kg onit but it still glides nicely.
they paddle into waves easily
Ordered the PSH 8'9" Hull Ripper Carbon.
I'll provide a report once it and the swell arrive.
Thx to all for the info on these boards.
Andrew just sent me a 9-6 pro HR to test out beautiful outline , the board looks insane. This was the board I originally ordered but none were left so I got the got 9-1 pro instead. Haven't got it wet yet maybe in the morning...watch this space.
JBF,
good info here on size/vol's/etc. of the current PSH Hull Rippers:
At first I disagreed with that , but I'm now pretty settled on the 9-2 wide HR . I surfed my smaller boards on the weekend after a couple of months on the HR's , definitely throwing the 9-2 wide HR around much better than my 8-11 ripper. The boards are two very different animals , the bottom chine on the HR's really gets the board on it's rail ,so you surf with alot more flow. The extra length and volume does not inhibit performance , it actually increases it due to the hull shape.
Finally got the 9-6 HR carbon pro wet last night in epic 4 foot Greenmount, super fast sucky waves the board was insane. Very fast and draws really nice clean lines, it doesn't throw around like the 9-2 but it really carves turns, the board just keeps accelerating through the bottom and cutbacks. Its paddling speed is insane for it's size by far the fastest board I have ever paddled by a long way. I got smashed last night getting caught inside and was swept down 300m the board just motored back against the current and wind.
It's a back foot board so you need to move your feet . I didn't put a kick pad on this one but you do need it not so much for grip but a locator. I surfed some very steep walls last night , didn't get out of the water until 7.30pm (Qld time) the board held in amazingly well high in the pocket which gave me the confidence to push through the sections in total darkness.
Stability wise not as stable as the 9-2 wide HR but still easy to stand on , even after 3 hours I only had minor leg fatigue and only tea bagged a couple of times , so it gets a 8 out 10 for stability.
Surf wise Full performance board you don't need to ride it to see that, it's outer plane shape is beautiful, advanced riders will love this board so would intermediates, you can ride it at full throttle or pull back and be the cross stepping style master .Also with it's paddle speed makes a great family board in the creeks and rivers or a cross fit trainer when there's no surf.
PSH 8'9" Hull Ripper first impressions for 75 kg advanced SUP'r:
Finned it up with the PSH Future Quad set and went for a flat water/no wind paddle. Very stable and glides well considering its size while at the same time very turn.
Next day we had a decent 3' ground swell with little wind. Very forgiving for someone my size. Pops over white water well.
I've ridden a hand glassed custom 9'5" PSH Hull Ripper @ 28 7/8" x 4 1/8" before and the glide was almost as good on the 8'9". With the added width of the 8'9" I found it was just as stable.
On the wave this thing will turn as hard you want to push it. As others have said, you want to ride it from the tail. Super fast down the line as well.
Very happy with the new ride. More info when the swell returns.
Fits well in the wagon too...
