how much do you weigh??
if your over 85kg or a new paddler to surfing then its a sweet, loose stable paddler.
if your a little more addvanced and weigh under 85kg, id nlook at something else.
its just a little floaty for a smaller or medium sized rider.

thanks joy rider been suping about 3 yrs ..just saw a photo of the 8/10 thought it might be ok for me ..but saw that it was about 150 lts ...i am 85kgs...and currently riding a naish 9/6 quad which is about 135lts.looking to come down a bit to something looser...
I'm 95kgs & thought it was a bit floaty but it surf really well 
Added this to my quiver just before ANZAC for me being 108-110kgs goes fairdinkum awesome like a short board. Have had it up to at least 3 times overhead Nice.
For you being 85Kgs i would seriously consider either smaller. The grip system for me doesnt work as well as for others, but Starboards assistance was awesome.

Just got an 8'10" WP in the silver AST construction. I'm 6'3" 100 kg perfect float for me easy to bury a rail, very responsive. Much better paddler than I was led to believe onto a wave. This is only after a couple sessions in small choppy surf- the 32" width is very helpful to me.
Think you could go smaller than the WP, I agree w/joyrider's recommendation.
Surf Wind and Snow in Collaroy; have been so good, they gave me few a demo boards.
First the Starboard 9'8 element I did try it in tough conditions i.e. howling wind and 6 ft + swell and 15Kt+ wind it was a challenge stability wise but doable.
Then I tried the 9'5 Naish Mana, in the same conditions, I've had one of these before so there was no challenge at all and it charged the big surf conditions and did everything as expected, it's a lot of volume though and floaty even at my 105kg.
I was not that keen to try the Starboard 8'10 by 32, thought it to be a bit of a miss fit. How wrong could I have been? The 8'10 wide point has out preformed the Starboard 9'8 by 30 and the Naish Mana 9'5, this in large unstable conditions (and 6 ft + swell and 15Kt+ wind), I took it out at Collaroy going for the bigger sets, then a Palmy on testing banks that demanded quick cut outs.
I found the 4 fin set up allows the board to be spun around in an instant. The 32 width then has the stability to allow an absolutely confident take off. It does like to be ridden on the rails, put your front foot down and it accelerates. I'd say this is a big guys board, I weigh 105kg and am 6ft tall, I'm just on 45 to. The Starboard 8'10 by 32 nose allows it to punch though white water with confidence it does cruise with acceptable speed for a surf orientated board, I could not keep up with an 11 ft board but did not expect to.
Have a look at the starboard pocket rocket, it's a bit smaller but a lot less volume 8'5" x 30", 125ltrs. Have one in my demo fleet (my sons). If your up in noosa drop in and have a go on it.

thanks guys i have got a wave pro 9.1x29 to demo for a few days so will see how it goes...
I was lucky enough to have a quick spin on the 9'1" after macs got it back from the local board repairer , All the dings were fixed and the board was sanded all the back to show all the carbon fibre,s { sure' it's made that way !!}
Wow what a surprise board it is , looks biggish surfs small , loose but still has a lot of drive and fits nicely into the wave .
Looking forward to having a go on the 8'5"
to the kind guy [no pimping]who lent me the 9ft 1 starboard pro surf to demo please disregard the 1st half of the last post .....but please regard the second half as i agree with ric as to how this board handles....surf's small board...good drive ...good direction change...good stability [i am 85kgs and 59yrs young] surfs sweet but have only had chance to surf it in 1 to 2ft clean waves....only negative is the non slip deck [no deck grip] i did wear booties though and found it not to bad ...would probably get used to the non slip...hopefully when this weather settles down a bit will try the board in more testing conditions.[a bit more size]
i have the widepoint 8,10 and its an amazing board. i had it out on for the second day now and its superstable, very easy to catch waves on. its surfs very nice too.
for me (6,3, 90 kgs) its the perfect board for the choppy conditions we sometimes get here in the atlantik. the built quality is nice too. much better than my old board (coreban performer).
