Yes, Downwinder is spot on here, as usual. This is a closer look at the North - South run from the GC Seaway to Nobbys Beach. 13km almost straight South.
These N-S runs are probably better suited to shorter boards than the S-N runs are on the GC.
Not really anything in the ocean off the GC, unfortunately.
There are some good runs down the Northern NSW Coast as well as the North Straddie to Redland run inside Moreton Bay.
Nobody wants to paddle a Downwinder in flatwater but it could be necessary if this rain keeps on going like its predicted to do.
Here is a plan D to consider, should it come to it, so long as the Tweed River does not flood.
15km in a general NE-SW direction. Fingal Heads boat ramp to Terranora Road bridge.
There are also plenty of options in the Gold Coast waterways, so one way or another you should be able to put something interesting together. There is a whole lot more to chose from on the GC than those boring Currumbin Creek options.
Here are some examples: Start at the end of Seaway World drive and end at either Via Roma Drive Bridge (8.8km) or Bermuda Street Bridge (11.2km).
With the amount of rain at the moment you better have a weed, log, dead animal fin to get through the Gold Coast waterways. I can only imagine the filth that will be washing down over the next few days.
URGENT UPDATE: “12 TOWERS OCEAN SUP RACE”
Based on current forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology and advice received from a professional weather analyst, the predicted conditions will not favour this Saturday's running of the “12 Towers Ocean SUP Race 2012”.
The Event Directors have taken into consideration all possible scenarios, and have tried to apply alternate race options - none of which seem to fit into the event's structured safety measures.
On behalf of the Race Directors, I can confirm our final decision is to postpone this event – now scheduled for the following Saturday 4th February.
All other details regarding the race remain the same.
Those who have registered as at 24th January will be contacted via email with an option to refund registration fees to those who cannot compete the following week.
SUPSA would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. We sincerely appreciate your support towards this event & look forward to seeing you all Saturday 4th February.
thats a good decision. it's been bucketing rain, it's suppose to keep doing that till sunday with howling onshore winds
its a ugly looking ocean and the creeks and rivers aren't going to be much better with all the run off from the rain.
Good call supsa, the creek was horrible already this morning and with more 4 days of rain before weekend, it will be nasty everywhere.

Very good call, SUPSA. Currumbin Creek almost broke its bank on the high tide this morning and the Tweed River did break its bank in places earlier. Nature wins again.
Phew gives me another week to train , could mean the difference between coming in last or second lastOr to actually make it

Fingers crossed for kind conditions on Saturday 4th February. Long range forecast looks very promising at the moment!
Based on some recent long range projections, the emerging ridge will combine with another trough/ surface low moving off southern Queensland or northern NSW mid next week, setting up a strong SE fetch within close range of the coast. This hints at a strong building trend in E/SE swell during Wednesday and Thursday – albeit heavily affected by strong associated onshore winds.
Haha i must zig zag a bit more than you!! I think there will be a can of kirra and another one off Burleigh so they might add a bit of length but i'm sure it will be somewhere between 12km and 15km depending on how straight you paddle!!! either way it will be a great day.

I know it's only early days, but forecast for next Saturday is looking very promising...
It is looking better for the wind for sure! If the we do get that forecast 4 - 6 foot of east swell will the start and finish lines be in the ocean? Not sure how it usually works when the swell's up but could be some good carnage at the finish if everyone is required to race to the beach!
